Jermaine Jones gets the boot from American Idol for deception

By  |

Jermaine Jones has earned the less than proud distinction of a contestant disqualified from ‘American Idol.’  It was recently discovered that Jones lied to the producers of the show to hide a criminal record that includes a warrant for his arrest.  Though he has been deemed the “Gentle Giant” by the show’s host Ryan Seacrest it would seem that this singer has a giant past he’s been trying to keep hidden in the closet.  While not an early front-runner in the competition Jones did make it to the coveted “Top-12″ as a surprising 13th addition to the contestants.  Apparently, the judges regretted weeding out the 6’8” competitor.  The comeback became even more shocking after the producers started to do some digging tipped off by none other than Jones’s own father.

TMZ corrected their earlier statements regarding Jones and his father’s relationship by releasing the following update: “Over the last few days, we’ve been reporting that Jermaine told producers his father abandoned him 10 years ago, but his dad called TMZ and called B.S. on his son, saying they see each other regularly.”  When Jones heard the news he began backtracking, tweeting that he had never told the producers any statement that his father had abandoned him.  This raised the suspicions of people behind the scenes at “American Idol” who claim that they knew Jones had made the statement.  After looking further into the competitor’s past the producers approached Jones on Tuesday afternoon about his disqualification. A later tweet from the “Gentle Giant” on his official “Idol” twitter account page said, “Awww I will no longer b on the show.” The post and the twitter account were deleted shortly after.  Jones appeared on the show that aired Wednesday night to make his final farewell and have a formal announcement of his leaving the show.

It was via the website Smoking Gun, court documents were uncovered that revealed Jermaine Jones is wanted in four counties for failure to appear in court for a variety of criminal charges.  The earliest dates back to 2006 and most recent offenses occurred in 2011.  His criminal offenses range from narcotics arrests, an open container charge, and several incidents of providing police with a false name.

This isn’t the first time that the website has outed an “American Idol” contestant from the show and the competition has a history of kicking out singers who have a personal or work history that may be surprising or embarrassing.  For now Jermaine Jones has joined the outcasts of “American Idol” bringing a surprising twist to this season’s competition.
