Jim Carrey records video message to Emma Stone

Jim Carrey is one of those actors who straddle that fine line between strangely deranged and absolutely hilarious, often achieving the latter while being the first, like Gary Busey or Tom Cruise.  Unlike Busey and Cruise however, Carrey gets away with it -nay, he has made a career of it.  With a few exceptional roles (i.e. “Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind”, “The Truman Show”), we are used to Jim Carrey, the funny man.

But Carrey’s latest stunt has raised quite a few eyebrows.  The 49-year-old grandpa posted a video on his personal site, jimcarreytruelife.com, professing his love for 22-year-old actor Emma Stone.

The two minute home video features an unflattering close-up of a serious-looking Carrey talking directly into a webcam:

” If I were a lot younger I would marry you and we would have chubby little freckle-faced kids. We’d laugh all day long and go camping and play Yahtzee and tell ghost stories by the fire. And every day for the rest of your life you would thank God that I was the appropriate age for you.”

Carrey ends the video mouthing: “I love you”.

Comedic genius, or straight out creepy?

10 Years after R&B singer Aaliyah dies in plane crash

Many would agree that one of the greatest tragedies for the R&B community is the death of singer Aaliyah Dana Haughton.

Ten years ago today, the 22-year-old singer was returning to Los Angeles after wrapping up the music video for her 2001 single “Rock the Boat”a day earlier than scheduled.  She never made it back to LA, as the plane crashed just a few hundred feet from the runway due to suspected cargo overloading.  Aaliyah was among nine out of 10 passengers who died from the crash.

At the time, Aaliyah, mentored by fellow R&B legend R. Kelly, was already well on her way to superstardom, having already recorded two top 10 singles and been nominated for a Grammy.  She was also breaking onto the big screen, landing leading roles in “Romeo Must Die (200)” and “Queen of the Damned (2002)”, as well as prospective roles in The Matrix sequels.

Friends and fans can only wonder at all the things that could have been had things gone differently.  The late artist said in an interview for MTV’s “Diary”, “I am truly blessed to wake up every morning to do something that I love; there is nothing better than that.”
