Glee Cast Snubbed by Comic Con

By  |

It’s that time of year again. When all of the lightsaber-wielding, manga-reading, anime-loving hordes turn out in droves to the San Diego Convention Center, eager to attend the annual San Diego Comic Con. For four days at the end of July, fans of the otherwise geeky, nerdy, and other-worldly take center stage and rub elbows with their peers, grab some sweet free merchandise, and attend panels featuring their favorite writers, actors, wookies, you name it.

But this year, a few special someones will be missing. The biggest stars and fan favorites of Fox’s cult-hit musical dramedy Glee will be notably absent from Comic Con, a rumored snub that has die-hard Glee fans, or Gleeks, in an uproar. After all, what’s a Glee panel without the high strung Rachel Berry (Lea Michele) or hunky Matthew Morrison (Mr. Schuester)?

Despite the uproar caused by fans of the show, the true reason for cast members’ absences is far less dramatic. In an attempt to calm the frenzied fans, Fox issued a statement to Entertainment Weekly via a rep, explaining, “Because we have such a large cast and we can’t bring everyone every year, this year we decided to bring down some of the cast who didn’t get to go last summer.” Meaning that for Comic Con 2010, only castmembers Mark Salling (Puck), Heather Morris (Brittany), Kevin McHale (Artie), Amber Riley (Mercedes), Jenna Ushkowitz (Tina), Naya Rivera (Santana) and Chris Colfer (Kurt) as well as executive producers Bryan Murphy and Brad Falchuck will be in attendance. Dianna Agron (Quinn), Lea Michele (Rachel), Matthew Morrison (Mr. Schuester), and Cory Monteith (Finn), who attended last year, will not be present, along with Jane Lynch (Sue Sylvester), whose rep confirmed a scheduling conflict.

The statement provides little solace for Gleeks, however, who despite their love for the show’s attending castmembers, had looked forward to seeing more of Glee’s heavy hitters at the Comic Con panel.
