Conflicting Reports About Joni Mitchell’s Health

By  |

Joni Mitchell was taken to the hospital on March 31, 2015. TMZ reported she was being treated at UCLA Medical Center after being found unconscious in her home. Joni Mitchell’s official website, jonimitchell.com, confirmed her hospitalization but did not release any more information, saying, “Joni has been hospitalized. We are awaiting official word on her condition and will post it here as soon as we know.”

In a statement on her website on April 3, a representative said, “Joni remains under observation in the hospital and is resting comfortably. We are encouraged by her progress and she continues to improve and get stronger each day.”

TMZ is currently reporting that Mitchell is in a coma due to a public legal filing for a conservatorship over the singer. In the filing,  a licensed physician indicated that Mitchell was unable to participate in her medical care for at least 4 – 6 months. There is no definitive mention of Mitchell being in a coma. Instead, a box was selected that says Mitchell is “unable to properly provide for her personal needs for physical health, food, clothing, or shelter.”

Despite TMZ’s reports, it is unclear what Joni Mitchell’s current health situation is. Leslie Morris, who is with Joni in the hospital, made the following statement through JoniMitchell.com:

“Contrary to rumors circulating on the Internet today, Joni is not in a coma. Joni is still in the hospital – but she comprehends, she’s alert, and she has her full senses. A full recovery is expected. The document obtained by a certain media outlet simply gives her longtime friend Leslie Morris the authority – in the absence of 24-hour doctor care – to make care decisions for Joni once she leaves the hospital. As we all know, Joni is a strong-willed woman and is nowhere near giving up the fight. Please continue to keep Joni in your thoughts.” You may add your well wishes for her at the website WeLoveYouJoni.com

At this time, Joni’s fans eagerly await news about the singer. Mitchell is 71 years old and is the singer behind iconic songs such as “Big Yellow Taxi” and “Woodstock.”

San Diego resident for over 10 years, I now call this beautiful city home. Originally from the Bay Area, I'm a California girl at heart. I love the outdoors, fitness, food, and a good craft beer (from San Diego of course).
