‘Beavis and Butt-Head’ returning to MTV in the fall

By  |

MTV might have abandoned ever showing a music video again in favor of airing shows like “The Jersey Shore” and “My Sweet 16,” but this fall it will return to its roots, at least a little bit.

“Beavis and Butt-Head,” the trash-talking cartoon duo that made MTV famous back in the 90’s, are returning to the cable program in October.

Creator Mike Judge made the announcement and took part in a panel discussion with fans at Comic-Con last Thursday. Fans also got to see a sneak peak of the new season.

In the 90’s, the “Beavis and Butt-Head” cartoon featured two far from intelligent teens sporting AC/DC and Metallica t-shirts and either sitting on a couch ripping music videos, talking about everything that “sucks” or wandering around and giggling when someone they met used a word like ”hole.”

The new installment of the show will again feature an AC/DC and Metallica t-shirt-doning Bevis and Butt-head sitting on the couch riffing about music videos.  But, according to Judge, the two teens will also watch, and no doubt rip, other MTV shows like “Teen Mom,” “Jersey Shore,” and “Teen Cribs” as well as youtube clips that fans send in.  They will even watch some UFC fights.

When asked at the panel why he decided to bring the series back after 14 years, Judge joked, “ I felt like TV was getting too smart.” He admitted that he had been jotting down ideas for new Beavis and Butt-Head stories for years.  He also told the crowd that he has never felt good after watching an episode of MTV’s hit reality show “The Jersey Shore” and described the idea for his characters to rip the show as “pay dirt.”

Judge has always, and will continue to do the voices of most of the shows characters.  And, in case you were wondering, the shows completely immature humor has not changed one bit.  In a clip of the new season that has now been released online, Beavis accidentally screws a toy figure to his hands, leading Butt-Head to tell the nurse at the emergency room, “Beavis screwed his hand, hu-huhu-hu-hu.”

It’s going to be good having a slice of the 90’s back.
