Bachelor Ben and Lauren Call Off Engagement

By  |

Last Monday, Ben Higgins and Lauren Bushnell confirmed their break up, to our dismay. Considering Higgins confessed his love to Bushnell and Jojo Fletcher on the season 20 finale, this doesn’t come as a big shocker. However, the couple did seem genuinely happy and in love, so its disappointing to see another Bachelor couple cut ties.

In a statement to People, the Higgins and Bushnell said, “It is with heavy hearts that we announce our decision to go our separate ways. We feel fortunate for the time we had together, and will remain friends with much love and respect for one another. We wish nothing but the best for each other, and ask for your support and understanding at this time.”

The couple moved to Colorado shortly after the proposal on their season of The Bachelor, a decision that may have been too swiftly made. Later, they tried to partner up in the creation of a reality TV show on FreeForm, but just demonstrated the duo’s apprehensiveness to get married and overall awkwardness. Maybe, this break up was for the best after all.

Higgins recently opened up about the breakup to E!News in order to shed light on the subject. Higgins respectfully noted, “I am a better man today because of Lauren and because of our relationship than I was two years ago.”

Higgin’s next steps come as a mystery to us, considering the announcement of his new podcast, which he will co-host with the memorable Bachelor contestant, Ashley Iaconetti. The unlikely duo is collaborating for a podcast called Ben and Ashley: “Almost Famous” – and it launches Tuesday, May 23. Make sure to tune in for that next week!

Optimistically, the breakup between Higgins and Bunshell seems as though it was for the best. We are hopeful for their futures, even if they are separate. Hopefully, this season’s Bachelorette doesn’t follow the same downward spiral.
