ZZ Ward to perform Wednesday, June 19th at Birch Aquarium

By  |

zzward1LA-based artist ZZ Ward will be playing on Wednesday, June 19th at Birch Aquarium at 7:45pm. She kicked off her summer tour at Sasquatch Festival with her adorable new ‘road puppy’ Muddy Waters in tow.

ZZ started out playing in her father’s blues band at dive bars around Oregon when she was 12 years old. A talented songwriter with a big voice and an encyclopedic knowledge of hip hop, she put out a mixtape early last year with Kendrick Lamar before anyone knew who he was, and Kendrick, Fitz & the Tantrums and Freddie Gibbs are on her well-received debut album, “Til The Casket Drops”.

She’s spent the last year on tour with everyone from Grace Potter to Gary Clark Jr. to Allen Stone. Her single “Put the Gun Down” has gone Top 10 on AAA and she’s been on Good Morning America, Leno, Conan, and Carson Daly. Her songs have been prominently featured in Nashville, The Voice, Pretty Little Liars and MTV’s Awkward. Her track with Kendrick was just #1 on the Hype Machine and a remix LP with Passion Pit, Dave Sitek, Com Truise and Schoolboy Q is coming out this fall.

“Her energy evokes Tina Turner’s, her chops Aretha Franklin’s, and her soul Etta James’s” – New York Times

“Her unapologetic blend of hip-hop, blues and pop paired with smoky vocals could make this singer a star.” – USA Today

“The first time we heard her smoky rasp, she was belting over the beat of Tyler the Creator’s ‘Yonkers’ on her own mixtape. ‘Criminal’ swelters a little more slowly, but it’s no less ballsy. Her wailing runs over rapper Freddie Gibbs cameo damn near make this NSFW.” – Esquire

‘Have you heard ZZ Ward yet? She is going to be a star.’ – NPR

Go check her out at the Birch Aquarium.
