The Flaming Lips Birth “Embryonic” 2xLP
Oklahoma’s fabulous Flaming Lips know there ain’t no rest for the wicked freaky, and so after a busy year of bickering with Arcade Fire and stirring up some (undeserved) controversy on their state’s House of Representatives floor (P.S. they won), they’re back to what they do best: The Music. The band will follow up 2006’s Grammy award-winning At War with the Mystics with Embryonic, the band’s 12th, and it’s expected as a double LP to be released… sometime TBA 2009. Well, some news is good news, I suppose.
Also, the Lips have some tour dates for the summer lined up here in the States and leave it to the Fearless Freaks to make sure we’re all satisfied with our ticket purchase(s).
From the press release:
Summer 2009 US tour dates have just been confirmed and THE LIPS are so appreciative of their die-hard touring fan base that they’re giving them a sneak peek at the new album. With every concert ticket bought online, fans will receive a digital EP allowing them to hear new LIPS music before anyone else. The EP will be comprised of three brand new recordings from EMBRYONIC: “Convinced Of The Hex,” “The Impulse,” and“Silver Trembling Hands,” followed by three additional rare B-side tracks selected by the band themselves. That same ticket buyer will also receive an official live LIPS’ digital download bootleg of the show they attend. Leading online distribution company Basecamp Productions is facilitating the production and delivery of the live music.
O.K. Live bootleg? I love it. As if the glitter, UFOs, and generally optimistic mayhem weren’t enough.
The Lips will be joined on tour by Stardeath and the White Dwarfs and, yes I saved the best for last, it will all be going down at the Del Mar Summer Concert Series on August 15th! Though, since that show will be free with your track admission for the day, all the free musical goodies are out. Aw, shucks. Rest of the summer is below:
