Street Scene ’09 lineup unveiled

Overlooking last year's Street Scene

San Diegans will always have their Cricket Wireless Amphitheatres, Their Casbahs, and their Belly Ups, but only once a year do we have the enitre East Village filled to the brim with 40,000 revelers and40 bands on five stages over two days.

Yes, Street Scene celebrates its 25th year on August 28 & 29, taking over the tailgate lot at PETCO Park and a few downtown city blocks. Headlining will be party-starters the Black Eyed Peas and the absolutely neon M.I.A.

While this year’s line-up may not have a strong of headliners as in years past, it seems to be a lot deeper, especially when noticing that up-and-comers Deerhunter fall towards the bottom of the line-up. In addition, there are zero returning bands from the past few years affairs.

Some bands the Entertainer staff are particularly excited about? Thievery Corporation, Modest Mouse, The Dead Weather (Jack White’s new project), Silversun Pickups, Band of Horses, MSTRKRFT (attn: Street Scene staff pls fix the name on the website … two R’s!), Calexico and West Indian Girl – to name a few.

Check out the rest of the lineup here, and stay tuned to the San Diego Entertainer for more information and coverage of Street Scene 2009.
