The country music superstar and American Idol winner Carrie Underwood’s new single “Cowboy Casanova” has been officially released. The track is off of her upcoming album, “Play On,” to be released next month.

The single was co-written by Underwood and Brett James who brought us “Jesus Take the Wheel”. This time around, the four-time Grammy Award winning ACM Entertainer of the Year, and reigning CMA and ACM Female Vocalist of the year brings us an up beat track much like her hit “Before He Cheats.”

Carrie Underwood has been no stranger to using women empowering, man-eating, kick-ass lyrics like she does in “Before He Cheats” and “I Told You So.” “Cowboy Casanova” has a similar feel and warns women to stay away from those dangerous cowboy types.

More fast paced than previous singles, the song can be hard to learn and sing along at first. There are no doubts that before you know it, fans all over the world will be screaming out the lyrics to no avail (not that there’s anything wrong with that).

This single is just a small taste of what is to come.  Underwood’s new album, “Play On,” will be released by November 3, just before she and Brad Paisley are set to co-host the Country Music Awards.

How will this album do compared to her previous albums? No one knows. There has been little word about what we can expect, but speculation is that she’s been working with Max Martin, famed producer of “Baby One More Time” and “My Life Would Suck Without You” by Britney Spears, Kelly Clarkson’s “Since You’ve Been Gone,” and Pink’s “So What.” If this collaboration is any hint of what’s to come, it seems that there could be another #1 on its way soon.

Underwood’s 2007 album “Carnival Ride” sold 2,954,000 copies, according to Nielsen SoundScan, while her 2005 debut album sold over twice that amount at 6,831,000.

An unfinished version of “Cowboy Casanova” was leaked online Wednesday, Sept. 2, prompting the early release of the official track on YouTube, which you can check out below:

San Diego resident for over 10 years, I now call this beautiful city home. Originally from the Bay Area, I'm a California girl at heart. I love the outdoors, fitness, food, and a good craft beer (from San Diego of course).
