With the British Open going on at Turnberry right now, there is a notable void as one of the World’s top golfers, and Rancho Santa Fe resident, Phil Mickelson passed on playing in the British to be by the side of his wife and mother, both of whom are fighting cancer.

According to Phil Mickelson, his wife Amy is recovering very well since her breast cancer surgery. They are patiently waiting for a test result that may influence her treatment plan.

Mickelson told the U-T, “The best news so far is that the cancer has not spread to the lymph nodes, which improves our chances of beating this in the short term and long term.”

Phil Mickelson’s mother also went through surgery on Wednesday. They have been very optimistic with the results of her surgery, and are waiting to get her pathology in a week. Phil Mickelson states, “She was very brave and everything went well.”

“We continue to be overwhelmed with the support of our extended group of friends and family,” he said. “The prayers, notes, articles, e-mails, texts, and packages get us through every day. We feel support all around us. Our gratitude is hard to put into words.”
