Padres Opening Day at Petco Park – Sold Out

photo courtesy of commons.wikimedia.orgThe San Diego Padres will start the season this Tuesday against the Los Angeles Dodgers at Petco Park. The first pitch, set for 3:40 p.m., will be thrown by Greg Vaughn, MVP of the 1998 National League Champion Padres. Opening game is nearly sold out with a few single seats left. The first 25,000 fans to arrive through the gates will receive a 2013 schedule cling presented by Aladdin Bail Bonds and all ticket holders will receive an Opening Day t-shirt presented by Sycuan. 

the opening day pregame ceremony will begin at approximately 3:00 p.m. Legendary broadcaster and Padres television play-by-play announcer Dick Enberg will host the ceremony, celebrating baseball in San Diego: past, present and future. The National Anthem will be performance by San Diego singer/songwriter, Miss California 2010, and American Idol contestant Arianna Afsar.  Afsar will also will perform God Bless America live before the 7th Inning Stretch. Unfurling of the Holiday Bowl Big Flag held by sailors from the USS Russell and the USS Boxer, and a flyover of two San Diego Police Department helicopters will also take place during the pregame ceremony.

The gates will be open to fans at on game day at 1:30 p.m. Given the game being sold out, you can expect parking to be an event in itself. Fans are strongly encouraged to arrive early to Petco Park and take advantage of public transportation. Thanks to the San Diego Metropolitan Transit System (MTS), MTS will offer increased trolley service and 5,000 free “Park and Ride” parking spots will be available at Qualcomm Stadium and Mission Valley stations.  The North County Transit District (NCTD) is offering a special Padres Coaster train that departs Oceanside Station at 1:51 p.m. and includes free trolley connections.

If you can’t make it to opening day Padres fans can tune into FOX Sports San Diego to catch the Padres. Programming will begin at 1:00 p.m.
