Padres announce open casting call for public address announcer

On January 25, all fans are invited to audition to be Petco Park’s next PA announcer

 SAN DIEGO – The San Diego Padres today announced the club will hold an open casting call for the next Petco Park public address announcer on Saturday, January 25, 2014. All fans are invited to audition for one of baseball’s dream jobs.

Tryouts will be held at Petco Park from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on January 25, with would-be announcers auditioning on a first-come, first-served basis. Entry will be through the Home Plate gate on Park Blvd.

Semi-finalists chosen from the open audition will go through an interview process to narrow the pool. The group of finalists will then showcase their skills at FanFest on Saturday, February 8, at which point all fans will have the opportunity to help choose the Top 3 by casting their votes online and via social media.

The new Petco Park public address announcer will be selected and revealed in March.

When the major league Padres joined the National League in 1969, their first public address announcer was John Demott. Around the end of the ’70’s, Bruce Binkowski (pictured) took over the vocal reins, and served as p.a. announcer for the longest so far. Bruce was the voice of the team until the 2000 season. The outgoing announcer today is Frank Anthony, who is also known for his radio work on 105.7 The Walrus.

Applicants should be prepared to spend the day at the ballpark. Depending on the turnout, your wait to audition could be several hours.

Please refer to the 2014 schedule. If selected, you will be required to work every home game (including mid-week day games, weekends and holidays).
