Making the right financial decisions for your investments

By  |

steve sextonSteve Sexton, the Entertainer’s very own financial expert, hosts a radio show each week called “Winning In Life.” Steve is the President of Sexton Advisory Group and Director of the Financial Knowledge Institute. He provides his listeners with the most crucial advice in all areas of financial planning. In addition to financial advice, Steve welcomes guest speakers on the show to talk about other life topics such as health, charity, travel and much more. The radio show airs every Sunday morning at 9:00 a.m. on KCBQ 1170 AM.

On this week’s episode, Steve starts by quickly recapping current events in the marketplace by mentioning the bailout in Spain, austerity targets in Greece, and debt in Italy. He briefly talked about decreased retail sales and manufacturing activity in June, and said economists believe that the housing market is experiencing highs and lows but is recovering slowly and uneasily.

Later, Steve tells us about one of his clients who owns a piece of real estate worth 1 million dollars. His client decided he wanted to hold onto the property even though it had been unproductive for 10 years because he didn’t want to pay the capital gains tax. Because he did not sell his property 10 years ago when it was worth $1.5 million, he potentially lost 500-600 thousand dollars. This as an example of many people who make similar mistakes because they don’t have a process in place for making the right financial decisions.

He listed 5 critical questions everyone should know to ask their financial advisors. These questions include: “How does this fit my current financial situation?” “How does this fit my tax situation?” and etc. For those interested, Steve advises you to contact him through Winning In Life Radio or Sexton Advisory Group to find out the 5 critical questions that will help you make better financial and investment decisions for the future.

Towards the end of the show, he discussed the “virus” of fees and charges from investment accounts that could be “cancerous.” People are leaving these viruses unchecked in their portfolio analyses and don’t realize the unknown charges until later. He goes more in depth about bonds, mundane returns on portfolios, and the “Rule of 100.” You don’t want to miss out on this important financial advice.
