Ranging from tide pools to rocky cliffs and clear blue water, each beach in San Diego has a feature that makes it slightly different from the next.

Lather up on sunscreen, grab your towels, and soak in that San Diego sun. Below is a list of San Diego’s best beaches.

Mission Beach

Not only is the beach beautiful, but Mission also has a Coney-island-esque amusement park with a Southern California vibe. Located next to Pacific beach, Mission offers an array of activities and food. From night clubs, to hot dogs, Mission beach has it all. Ice cream, amusement rides, AND a sandy beach just a few steps away? Sign me up!

Pacific Beach

A favorite among college students, P.B. is home to a lot of the nightlife in San Diego. Along with the miles of beaches and long piers, P.B. offers everything from night clubs to country bars to street tacos, you name it!

If you want more of a laid back day sun tanning, swimming, and walking through the shops, then head to Ocean Beach. Friendly locals, a calm atmosphere, and beaches that go on for days, Ocean Beach definitely makes the top 10!

La Jolla

La Jolla introduces a higher end of living in San Diego. La Jolla’s extravagant homes and prestigious shopping and dining are nothing compared to the beaches. With rocky cliffs, sunbathing seals, and the bluest of blue waters, you’ll need to visit this elegant town.

Coronado Beaches

If you’ve never been to Coronado your missing out. The beaches literally glisten due to the mineral Mica in the sand. After a day touring the cute town of Coronado and exploring the ever famous Coronado Hotel, head down to the smooth glistening sand to watch the sunset.

The Del Mar beaches are among some of the finest beaches in San Diego. The beaches offer a variety of characteristics that other seashores may not have. Secluded areas, dog beaches, family friendly beaches, Del Mar has it all. After playing in the sand, visit the charming shops, and head across the street to the Del Mar Racetrack.

Traveling more north will get you to the beautiful beaches of Carlsbad, Oceanside, and Cardiff by the Sea. If you are looking to explore the outer edges of San Diego, head north, otherwise enjoy the endless beaches right in the heart of the city.
