This Weekend in San Diego: Museums, Movies, Music, Meteors and Murder!!!

This weekend  is packed with events all around San Diego County. From murder mystery, to reggae concerts, to meteor showers, there is surely something fun happening in your area or just a short drive away.

Friday, August 13

In the mood for music? Well then stop by the North Park Music Thing, a two-day music event featuring artists from around the Southwestern United States. One-day passes are only $20, two-day passes are $35, and all the proceeds go to The San Diego Music Foundation. So head over to North Park August 13-14 to support a non-profit organization and discover local artists in your community.

Or if country music is what you’re into, catch Grammy-winning artist Leann Rimes in a Summer Pops Concert at the Embarcadero Marina Park South. With her hit song “How Do I Live” and pop music crossover “Can’t Fight the Moonlight” the 27-year-old artist rose to the top of the Billboard charts making her a household name throughout the nation. Tickets for her Summer Pops appearance range from $17-76.

If you’re in the mood for a foreign film, the San Diego Latino Film Festival starts their 10th Annual Cinema en tu Idioma Film Series at Ultra Star Mission Valley Cinemas at Hazard Center. From August 13-19, check out Regresa or Musica en Espera for only $10 general audience and $8 for students.

Join Naturalist Dorothy Klitzing as she hikes Boulder Loop and Ranch House Road in order to get a special look at the Perseid Meteor Shower. The 2 mile late evening hike will surely be a unique, refreshing experience, just be sure to bring a jacket and flashlight! The event is free, but requires registration.

Saturday, August 14

Don’t miss out on The Reggae and Beer Fest at the Del Mar Fairgrounds.  The first race is at 2pm, but from noon-5pm hang out infield as beer tastings and reggae music blasts leading up to the concert later that night. For $15 enjoy five 7-oz samples of beer while listening to the reggae throughout the field. After the races reggae legend Jimmy Cliff and musician Matisyahu take the stage for a special concert. Admission to the concert is free if you attend the races, but are $20 if you arrive afterwards.

Develop your detective skills while dining! The Dinner Detective Show is a weekly interactive murder mystery event in San Diego where the attendees are not only the audience members but also the suspects! Bring a date or a friend to enjoy a four-course meal while discovering the culprit.

Meddle in more street art madness with Acamonchi vs. Surge 2010. These well known artists in San Diego street culture join forces to present their colorful paintings and graffiti to the Thumbprint Gallery. Munch on wine and appetizers while perusing the artwork at this free event.

Sunday, August 15

Sunday continues the concert trend as more music acts hit up the San Diego area. Had too much fun on Saturday? That’s fine… Grab a friend and enjoy the free music events around town. Chill out to Cool Fever at the Coronado Ferry Landing or relax with the musical styling of  The Heroes as part of Scripps Ranch Symphony in the Park.

Still have some energy? Get some Bonafide Lovin’ at the House of Blues as Chromeo with Holy Ghost! and Telephoned take the stage. Tickets are only $24.50, so bust out your Fancy Footwork and listen to the quirky electrofunk duo live.
