Public Gather this Saturday at Mt. Soledad

Per the Mt. Soledad’s Veterans Memorial site, the “mission” of the cross atop La Jolla’s hill since the original dedication ceremony in 1954 is: “To enhance and preserve the Mt. Soledad Veterans Memorial honoring veterans who have served our country and to educate the general public about service to our country and the sacrifices that veterans make to preserve the freedoms we enjoy as Americans.”  The site was first built to honor Korean War veterans.

Last Tuesday a three-judge panel of the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals ruled the Mt. Soledad cross display as “unconstitutional. ”

According to Charlie Butts with OneNewsNow, “Attorney Charles LiMandri (a San Diego lawyer) tells OneNewsNow that the justices do not seem to care about public acceptance of the cross. ‘They are very agenda-driven,’ he bluntly states. ‘I mean, they have the election results — twice the people of San Diego have voted [to keep the cross]. It’s come in at 76 percent of the people want the cross to remain where it is. The [numbers from the] latest San Diego Union poll, with thousands of people participating, were at 77 percent.'”

SignOn San Diego reports, “For now, opponents of the cross have prevailed… The appeals court did not order the 43-foot monument removed but returned the case to federal court in San Diego to determine if the cross will have to be moved or if there is a way that it can be modified to pass constitutional scrutiny as part of the war memorial.”

The American Center for Law and Justice (ACLJ) filed a brief on behalf of 25 members of Congress supporting the cross, called it a “judicial slap in the face” to veterans.

Thousands of supporters are planning to demonstrate at the cross at 10:00 a.m. this Saturday per the USA Constitution American Patriot website.
