Spreckels at NightWe have less than a couple more weeks left of August. Our summer vacation is soon coming to a close. Why not end it with a bang? Come to Balboa’s weekly Twilight in the Park Summer Concert series. Tuesday through Thursday, from 6:15 to 7:15, Balboa hosts live local band performances at the Spreckels Organ Pavilion. Additionally, admission is free for all those attending. To help our audience decide which performances to attend we have provided a detail list on the upcoming performers for this week.

August 20 – Stoney B. Blues Band (Old School Blues)

Got a craving for the Blues? On Tuesday evening, the Stoney B. Blues band will play out their amazing Blues music for their beloved audience. In 2010, the band’s members Stoney B, Lance Dieckmann, Annette Da Bomb, Pat Kelley, Bob Prater, and Tony Peterson, came together to form their group. The group’s website lists many venues they perform at, including the Blues Summit at Hennessey’s Tavern, the Riviera Hotel and Resort, House of Blues, Jimmy Loves, and the Calgary International Blues Festival. According to the band’s facebook page, they state, “Look out people…this Band will grab your attention, keep you listening, laughing, dancing and wanting more. That is why this is the New Blues Experience that’s got people talkin’ …” You can also check out some of their music on the band’s website and Youtube. Come and dance the night away to some great “Southern Style Blues.”

August 21 – Charlie Chavez y su Alfrontruko (Salsa & Latin Orchestra)

Prefer Latin and Salsa over the Blues? Come for a fun night of Salsa as the Charlie Chavez y su Alfrontruko Band performs live on stage at the Organ Pavilion. According to the Charlie Chavez’s Remo website, the band “has not only performed at major venues and festivals in Southern California, but has also opened for some of Salsa’s biggest stars. In 2012, Charlie Chávez y Su Afrotruko Salsa Band was selected to open for Ruben Blades on the 30th Anniversary Celebration of Tijuana Cultural Center; Oscar de Leon a Puerto Rican band and Plena Libre, in San Diego.” A video sample of the band’s music can be found on Youtube. Wednesday promises to be a great night for people of all ages.

Spreckels at Night 2August 22 – Coronado Concert Band (Best of Hollywood & Broadway)

What better way to end a concert week than with an hour of live symphony concert music? On Thursday evening, Balboa will bring to the stage the musical talents of the Coronado Concert Band. The band has performed for many venues throughout Southern California, including their own beloved hometown. Last July, during our patriotic festivities, the band performed for the Coronado Concert series. According to the concert page, “Our traditional opening act and the pride of our town, the Coronado Community Band, under the direction of Phil Imming, brings big brass, powerful percussion, and loads of spirit to the park in musical selections ranging from patriotic to swing.” Join us at Spreckels in Balboa for a fantastic night of talented music.
