This Weekend in SD: Veterans and Vino around the County
It’s an exciting weekend full of fun events celebrating Veterans, beer, arts, wine and women. Check out what’s happening around the county as we head into the holiday season.
Today is Veteran’s Day! Celebrate our nation’s heroes at the USS Midway Museum for celebrations and activities including a special 3pm ceremony.
San Diego Beer Week continues! Grab a brew at the fifth and final day of Phil’s BBQ & Beer Fest while indulging in some of their famous delicious ribs. Can’t make it? Well, the county-wide SDBW festivities keep going through Sunday, so check out a list events and specials on their site! For the wine drinkers, don’t forget tonight’s 7th Annual La Jolla Gallery Wine Walk and Taste in La Jolla Village.
For Thursday night local concerts, Mexican-American singer-songwriter Lila Downs visits the House of Blues while The Silent Comedy with Andy Clockwise, Fierce Creatures and Lowvolts rock a sold-out show at the Casbah.
Friday, November 12
It’s already the middle of November, which means Thanksgiving Day is on its way! Learn some Turkey Day Toasting Favorites with wine educator Keri Busino as she discusses which pairings go best with your festive feast at the Balboa Park Food & Wine School in the Prado.
A lot is happening at the Del Mar fairgrounds this weekend starting off with SnowJam, a three-day showcase of the latest specials, fashions, and gear to get you ready for the upcoming snow season. Then, grab your girls for several days of pampering and empowerment at the Head to Toe Women’s Expo. Both events last through Sunday.
Afterward, head down to the art-filled streets of Little Italy for Kettner Nights or check out performances by the English Beat at Belly Up Tavern or KT Tunstall at the House of Blues. Comedian Jo Koy also makes a stop in San Diego for a sold out show at the Pechanga Theater.
Saturday, November 13
It’s a great day to get down and dirty at the Del Mar Fairgrounds for the Del Mar Mud Run as individuals and groups compete and celebrate in the infield sludge. Then get your cameras ready for the two-day 2010 Photo Expo West held at the Bing Crosby Hall.
Many hopping activities happen today as a part of San Diego Beer Week including Bikes, Boards, and Brews at the SD TapRoom in Pacific Beach, Scheff’s Beer, Bands, & BBQ at Bar Pink, and a Local Pint & Movie Night at the La Jolla Brewhouse, where they’ll be showing comedy film classic Animal House.
Join us at the SD Entertainer as we head to the W Hotel to support our friends at Philanthro Productions in their partnership with Pencils with Promise for POP!, a multi-city fundraiser to raise money and awareness for education in developing countries.
Sunday, November 14
It’s the final day of the San Diego Beer Week celebrations and if beer for brunch sounds good, visit The Karl Strauss Brewery Gardens hosting the SDBW Beer Brunch or the Pearl Hotel offering Beer for Breakfast.
The Celebrity Chefs Tour hits San Diego with demonstrations from some of the hottest culinary experts in the industry including mixologist Mike Yen from La Jolla’s Nine-Ten. Sign-up with the SD Entertainer by noon on November 11th for a chance to score a pair of tickets to this amazing event.
End the weekend with some entertainment from Blonde Redhead as they tear down the House of Blues with guest Olof Arnalds or check out funnyman Bo Burnham as he brings some laughs to the SOMA.
