It’s the moment we have all been waiting for… the weekend is almost here and there is tons to do. Friday brings us some notable live shows, and of course, out-door movies. World Whiskey Day is Saturday, May 19, and your favorite bars will be serving their best Manhattans and Old Fashioneds this weekend. After a day of sippin’ on all your perfectly crafted whiskey favorites, nurse your hangover by getting outside and sweating out those toxins. That’s right, Sundays are for 5Ks, and there are a few this weekend that are benefiting some really great charities.

Venissimo Cheese Pairing at Bay City Brewing

Wine and cheese have long been the classic pairing, but Bay City Brewing is mixing things up a bit in celebration of American Craft Beer Week. The brewery will host an evening reminiscent of a summer BBQ—except they’re trading the traditional canned brew and hot dog on the grill combo for the finest ales and artisan cheeses.

Gaslamp Club Crawl

Join 50 to 100+ singles, tourists, locals and birthday groups as you are escorted to the best clubs in downtown. Rooftop Cinema Club just arrived in San Diego, and will be showing films atop Manchester Grand Hyatt San Diego. With its stunning views of the city from every angle imaginable, Rooftop Cinema Club is revolutionizing the movie-going experience in its unique and one-of-a-kind setting underneath and among the stars. Open to adults 18-and-over. Ticket prices start at just $17 per person for a single deck-chair underneath the moon and the stars. Showing is at 7:30pm

Dirty Heads & Iration 

Pop, reggae, hip-hop band the Dirty Heads will be playing at the Mattress Firm Amphitheater. They will be partnering with the organization Plus 1, pinning $1 of every ticket sale to benefit the Natural Resources Defense Council. The show will also includes Iration, the Movement and Pacific Dub. Event begins at 6:30pmTickets are $20-$36

Earth, Wind & Fire

With a signature sound beyond category and a groove as deep as the soul of the planet, Earth, Wind & Fire’s legendary journey has set the standard for music of all genres and made a profound and lasting impact on popular culture. Jam along to classics such as “September,” “Boogie Wonderland” and “Let’s Groove” at Harrah’s Resort Southern California. Tim Allen Stand Up

Household favorite Tim Allen will be performing at Jacobs Music Center’s Copley Symphony Hall. Tim Allen recently wrapped the 6th season of his hit sitcom Last Man Standing on ABC. He has since been performing stand-up to sold-out crowds at venues across the country, and he will be stopping in San Diego this Friday. Tickets start at $35. Show begins at 8pm.

Movies on the Bay: Wizard of Oz (1939)

Head to Tidelands Park on Coronado island at 6:30pm for this free classic family favorite. Pack your picnic and grab your blankets for a cozy night on the bay. Kids of all ages can appreciate the the tale of Dorothy who meets fantastic characters on her journey trying to get back home.

Omnia Cocktail City with Coast Club

Cocktail City San Diego brings another of its famous nightclub and open mixology bars to Omnia Downtown. The club opens early just for cocktail city guest at 9:30pm with a 60 minute open mixology bar featuring complimentary hand crafted Elyx cocktails. Party is held on the Omnia’s Rooftop Terrace. Vom Fass will sample American, Irish and Scotch whiskies as well as a few of their newest international whiskies – no passport required. Vom Fass will also be serving delicious appetizers. Sparks Gallery New Exhibition Opening

Sparks Gallery is bringing back the exhibition in full-force with newly presented artists alongside previously featured and well-collected local artists. All works are sized 10×10 inches or smaller, and all are priced at $200 or less. The group exhibition will showcase small works by more than 20 Southern California artists. This event is Free but RSVP is required for the opening reception at 6:30pm.

Armed Forces Day Operation Appreciation

The Oceanside Chamber of Commerce will bring the business community and area residents together to provide a day of recognition to all active-duty military stationed on Marine Corps Base Camp Joseph H. Pendleton and nearby military bases. Thousands of active duty military and their family members are treated to a day of FREE food, carnival rides and entertainment at the Oceanside Pier Amphitheatre. Whether you are a civilian who wants to show your gratitude and enjoy a day of fun, or a member of the military family, this is a day for you: Show your appreciation or to be appreciated. The event is from 11am – 4pm.

OMBC’s Second Annual Beerfest & Over-the-Line Tournament 

Old Mission Beach is kicking off the summer Over-the-Line (OTL) Tournament. Sip craft beer from some of San Diego’s finest breweries and enjoy fare from local food trucks. Breweries will include BNS Brewing, Bay City Brewing, OB Brewery, Alesmith, Coronado Brewing, Thorn Brewing, Mason Aleworks, Ballast Point, Helix Brewing, Fall, SR76, Duck Foot, Groundswell, Benchmark, 3 Punk Ales, Second Chance, Resident, Mike Hess, Iron Fist, Bitter Brothers and Dos Desperados.  Cutwater Spirits will also be serving up craft cocktails onsite. General admission, including the four hour beer tasting for guests ages 21+, is $35 get tickets here.

The OTL Tournament will host 120 teams in a double elimination format. The first rounds of the two day event will take place from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 19 with winning teams returning from 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 20. Tournament divisions include: Men’s Pro; Men’s Open; Men’s Masters; and Women’s Open. The entry fee is $120 per team and will increase as the tournament fills up.

Searsucker’s Can & Jams Featuring Ballast Point

Enjoy live music and sip on cans of Ballast Point brews for just $6 from 2-5pm. Happy Hour Eats will include house pickle ($4), duck fat fries ($6), spicy tuna poke ($10), shrimp & grits ($10), philly meatball ($8), mussels ($12), burger ($10). $1 from every can sold will be donated to the San Diego Surfers, the championship winning Women’s rugby club comprised of current and former military members, professionals and students.

Gaslamp Artisan Market

A new artisan market just launched on Fifth Avenue between Market Street and Island Avenue. The Gaslamp Artisan Market will be held every Sunday at 10AM. The market will be a space for local artisans, crafters, and retailers to sell their goods and services. What better way to spend a Sunday, than to browse the handcrafted goods, brunch at an amazing restaurant and meander through the Gaslamp Quarter?

NFFC 5K Walk/Run Benefiting NFFC & the Emilio Nares Foundation

Nott’s Forest Football Club is excited to announce their 2nd Annual 5K Walk/Run. This event will raise funds to support continued club success and improvements to the Hickman facility. The club will also give back to the community by donating a portion of the proceeds to the Emilio Nares Foundation (ENF) — a local charity supporting children with cancer. San Diego Donut Run

This family event will include a 5K Fun Run, 1 Mile Donut Dash & Kids Dash. Registration includes a medal, shirt, and a donut. Costumes are encouraged. There will be donuts from your favorite shops like Donut Bar, Nomad Donut, Copper Top, Skinny Donuts and Devil’s Dozen. All proceeds got to GiGi’s Playhouse San Diego, a non-profit Down syndrome achievement center. Event begins at 8pm. Get your tickets here.

dogBYOD: Bring Your Own Dog to the Quartyard

Bring your beloved K9 to the Quartyard for their Grand Opening for dogs from 12pm-5pm. The Quartyard held its opening for us two legged folk last weekend, and now they are opening their doors to man’s best friend. Let your dogs mingle with other furry friends, while you enjoy live music by Lady & The Champs and The Scooby Doo -Wops, and munch on delicious bites.
