Experience the immense cultural expressions of food and art the city of University Heights has to offer. On September 20th, 2009, the second annual University Heights Community Development Corporation (UHCDC) and the University Heights Arts Association join forces to give you the fourth annual “Taste of University Heights,” a cultural event that will include local artists, musicians, writers and some of San Diego’s best restaurants.

The starting point for this event is at the Old Trolley Barn Park, where visitors can stroll through over forty painting, photography, glass art, sculpture, jewelry, and mixed media exhibits. Then take the free shuttle service to the Swedenborg Hall, which will host eight theater troops and local playwrights. As a special treat, there will be seven one-act play performances from noon to 1:00 p.m. There will also be live musical performances throughout the day that express the cultural background and history of University Heights.

The next stop along the tour will be the Athenaeum Music & Arts Library/ School of the Arts, featuring a student art exhibit. Going along with the “Taste of”theme, many of the artists are using “Foodie” as the subject matter for their art. There will also be tours of local artists’ studios, such as Irene Corey, Jeffrey Wynne, Larry Caveney, Sandra Teel, Chris Schaie, and Paul Stolte.

One main event at the “Taste of University Heights” is the opportunity to leisurely walk through the neighborhood of University Heights enjoying samples from local, ethnic restaurants. This delectable experience will only cost you $15; the shuttle service and tours around the city are free.

Some of the participating restaurants include: Twiggs, Muzita Abyssinian Bistro, Monica’s at the Park, Eclipse Chocolat, Bahia Mexican Restaurant, Gulf Coast Grill, Pizzeria Luigi, Loving Hut, Mama’s Bakery & Lebanese Deli, and CreamCoffee House.

Come out and enjoy this incredible event and get a “taste of” University Heights’ local flavor!
