St. Patrick’s Day Guide 2017: Recipes, Beer, Events and More!
American’s love to party for any occasion, and here in San Diego, St. Patrick’s Day is no different. Over the years, The San Diego Entertainer has been “Your Source for Everything San Diego’. This time of year, we’re also your source for everything St. Patty’s Day.
St. Patrick’s Day Themed Food
With St. Patrick’s Day right around the corner, one of the easiest ways you can add some festive touches to your day is with food. Yes, you can wear green, sport the shamrocks, or drink green beer, but what is really authentic? Corned Beef and Cabbage can be very time consuming to make. We have a great recipe for you, plus a recipe for Corned Beef Hash. Or you can skip the kitchen and try one of these great San Diego establishments serving a great meal this year:
The Field (544 5th Ave, Gaslamp)
Rosy OGrady’s (3402 Adams Ave, San Diego, CA 92116)
Hooley’s Irish Pub (5500 Grossmont Center Dr, La Mesa)
Callahan’s Pub (8111 Mira Mesa Boulevard, Mira Mesa)
If you’d rather not fight the crowds looking for corned beef and are still wanting to try something authentic, you can still have fun with food at home. There are a few easy to prepare dishes that will still put you in the spirit. Try Irish Potato soup or Irish Soda Bread.
St. Patrick’s Day Beer & Alcohol Options
Beer is the drink of choice for many celebrating St. Patrick’s day. If you’re going to partake, you have a few options: Green beer, traditional Irish beer, or other festive cocktail. Want to make your own green beer? Need suggestions for Irish beer? Want to try a green cocktail? We’ve got you covered.
Although green beer isn’t really an Irish tradition, dying your beer to fit the St. Patrick’s Day color of choice is fun and festive. If you want to dye your beer green, all you need is some green food coloring and a light beer so the color shows through. Many food coloring boxes stick to primary colors, and green might not be available. If your elementary school education serves you correctly you should know that blue and yellow make green, so not to worry if you get to the store and find green to be missing from the shelves.
Want something more traditional? From dark beers and stouts to light beers, ales and lagers, there are tons to choose from; many are available at your local grocery market right now. Want a cocktail? We’ve got recipes for a Green Apple Whisky-tini, Irish Buck, Lucky Charm cocktail and more. Get more information here.
San Diego is full of Irish spirit. Try one of these 5 SD Entertainer-favorite Irish bars this Friday (or Saturday or Sunday). The festivities continue all year long.
St. Patrick’s Day Events and Happenings
