Seeing Green this St. Patrick’s Day

By  |

Saint Patrick’s Day is upon us this Sunday, and the city of San Diego will be seeing green. Of course you can start the weekend on Saturday with the St. Patrick’s Day Parade at Balboa Park. Or perhaps you’re inclined to exercise before the mass consumption of beer ensues; if so, you may want to look into the St. Patrick’s Day 10K at Mission Bay. But come Sunday, be ready not only wear, but eat and drink green.

Green beer is a staple at many bars, and is a fun way to celebrate. If you’re in Ocean Beach, you may want to check out Gallagher’s. They’ll be celebrating all weekend with green beer, live music and corned beef. On Sunday, enjoy some extra pints of Guinness and hob nob with some leprechauns while you’re at it.

Other bars with great St. Paddy pride are The Field and McFadden’s (downtown), Hooley’s (La Mesa), The Ould Sod and Rosie O’Grady’s (Normal Heights), and The Blarney Stone and Obrien’s in Clairemont/Kearny Mesa.

Head to your local Bruegger’s Bagels, who’ll celebrate St. Patrick’s Day with green bagels Friday through Sunday. Whether Irish by birth or choice, last year, people gobbled them up. In 2012, the chain sold more than 100,000 throughout the U.S. For information, go to www.brueggers.com.\

Looking for a little less green? Check out some recipes for Irish food and read some of our recommendations for great Irish beer. It’ll be your choice whether or not to add the green food coloring.

San Diego resident for over 10 years, I now call this beautiful city home. Originally from the Bay Area, I'm a California girl at heart. I love the outdoors, fitness, food, and a good craft beer (from San Diego of course).
