Madonna’s Super Bowl Halftime Show
Madonna solidified her spot as the queen of music and entertainment at the halftime show for Superbowl XLVI. The star studded performance blended her classics with new songs and artists like LMFAO, Cee Lo Green, Nikki Minaj, and M.I.A. The Material Girl spent almost 15 minutes running around the stage and performing acrobatics that reminded the audience that this sensation from the 80s is anything but old news. At the center of the most watched televised event of the year Madonna was able to hold center stage.
The performance was conceptualized by Cirque Du Soleil and Jamie King and started with the pop icon being carried in by rows of men dressed in armor. It continued playing with a theme of royalty and gods, as Madonna transitioned from “Vogue” to other hits and eventually ended up on the shoulders of one of the singers from LMFAO while singing “Party Rock Anthem”. Using an elaborate combination of dancers, stages, and technology the show pulled out all the stops as it moved through different styles. Ranging form ancient royalty to cheerleading and futuristic sets the performance hit on a wide variety of costumes and dances. Besides a stumble or two the show went off mostly without a hitch and besides a minor stunt from M.I.A., when she proceeded to flip off the camera and the millions of viewers watching, Madonna managed to keep the performance clean.
Possibly more shocking than M.I.A.’s obscene gesture? Madonna didn’t get paid for her performance at all. Perhaps not quite so surprising when one realizes that a slot for an ad campaign during the Super Bowl can cost companies big bucks. And what was the halftime show other than the optimum place to remind millions of viewers that Madonna is going on tour with her new cd MDNA this year?
After all was finished the internet seemed divided with its criticism or praise of the show. The only concept that seemed to unite all viewers was an amazement of Madonna’s age. Without a doubt whether viewers loved or hated the performance it was successful in showing the audience that this 53 year old woman can keep up with today’s singers and dancers while wearing 5-inch heels.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ROkhklj0ZGs
