Taste of Adams Avenue – Sunday, June 24th

By  |

While the Taste of Hillcrest and Taste of Gaslamp may outshine this event, there are some restaurants on Adams Avenue in the Kensington, Normal Heights, and University Heights areas that are worth paying attention to. Nearly all the restaurants on this year’s list earn a reputable 4 to 5 stars on Yelp, and get this foodie’s personal stamp of approval.

If you’re unfamiliar with the area, the Taste of Adams Avenue runs from Kensington (Adams Avenue just east of I-15) to University Heights (Adams Avenue west of the 805). The event will take place this Sunday, June 24th from 11am to 3pm where participants will enjoy tastes from the areas best restaurants.

Our pick for must-visit venues include:

  • Kensington Cafe for great American food done elegantly, with a San Diego flare
  • Ponce’s Mexican for family run Mexican favorites. Established in 1969, this spot is a Kensington staple with “no nonsense” Mexican food, plus great margaritas!
  • Blue Boheme for high-end French cuisine. This is probably the highest quality food you’ll see all day during the food tour.
  • Cafe 21 is one of the best spots on Adams Avenue. They claim to be “neighborhood fare with flair” and their meals never disppoint. If you’re thirsty, try a glass of sangria. It’s absolutely delicious and refreshing.
  • Incredible Cheesecake for decadent desserts to satisfy that sweet tooth
  • Proprietors Wine Reserve
  • Rosie O’Gradies for a welcoming environment and Irish pub fare
  • Tao for Vietnamese food, stepped up a notch
  • Sabuku Sushi – They have a bacon sushi menu on a regular basis. Enough said.
  • Cantina Mayahuel for great Mexican food and the best tequila bar around.
  • Blind Lady Ale House for craft beers and amazing pizza (other menu items are fantastic, so you won’t be disappointed no matter what they’re serving.
  • Farmhouse is a great French spot, but about 2 miles from the Kensington side of the event. Well worth the walk if you’ve got the energy.
  • Kensington Grill for American bistro cuisine that won’t disappoint. Everything is good there.
  • Twiggs for some coffee and treats to help beat the impending food coma
  • Lestat’s for even more coffee
  • Hanna’s Gourmet for traditional American food, that is way better than Mom (or Grandma) used to make

Tickets can be purchased at one of the participating restaurants or at the Adams Avenue Business Association’s office at 4649 Hawley Boulevard in San Diego. Tickets are $25.00 pre-day / $30.00 day of. Tickets are on sale here.

San Diego resident for over 10 years, I now call this beautiful city home. Originally from the Bay Area, I'm a California girl at heart. I love the outdoors, fitness, food, and a good craft beer (from San Diego of course).
