Mama’s Kitchen To Host Mama’s Day: A Delicious Charity Event to Help the Hungry

By  |

As Mother’s Day approaches, we’ll all be pampering and showering the mothers in our lives with love and affection. Food is typically a big part of the celebration, as it is the biggest restaurant day of the year.

In keeping with Mother’s Day, as well as our commitment to those who are truly really making a difference, the Entertainer & Lifestyles Magazine is featuring Mama’s Kitchen and a very special event it is hosting. Mama’s Kitchen got their start in 1990 when volunteers from the AIDS Assistance Fund discovered that many of their clients were becoming too ill to take care of themselves. At a time when little was known about the disease, they soon realized that a reliable home meal delivery service was needed to ensure that these individuals would continue to receive nutritious, life-sustaining food.

During the past 28 years, Mama’s Kitchen has served over eight million meals, never turning away a client who qualified for their services. Their commitment to those in need remains unchanged and in the past several months, Mama’s Kitchen expanded its mission to serve San Diegans affected not only by HIV, but cancer or other critical illnesses, as well. Mama’s Kitchen currently provides delivered meals, pantry services and nutrition education services to over 1,200 men, women and children in San Diego County annually.

The fundraising event, called Mama’s Day will feature more than 50 chefs offering distinctive tastes ranging from San Diego’s finest restaurants to the city’s top of the line hotels and catering companies, who will graciously prepare delicious samples for nearly 600 attendees. Guests will enjoy food, live music, and fun throughout the evening while dining on distinctive dishes graciously prepared and served by executive chefs from some of the region’s top restaurants. At this tasting event, guests will also have the opportunity to bid on an extensive silent auction or purchase a chance to win fabulous prizes in an opportunity drawing. In fact, Mama’s Day is often touted as the original San Diego tasting, known to offer a very special time for attendees.

Sam has special plans for the VIP guests, who will also enjoy a full hosted bar for two hours.

We sat down with Sam “The Cooking Guy” Zien for an exclusive interview to discuss his start in the food world, and why Mama’s Kitchen is so impactful in San Diego.
