From musicals, to disney productions, San Diego is filled with must-see and diverse theater performances. In the next couple of months, there will be productions at the La Jolla Playhouse, San Diego Musical Theater, San Diego Civic Theater and Balboa Theater. Some of the plays will include Freaky Friday and 9-5. This page will be updated weekly with the latest plays and operas playing in San Diego, so make sure to check accordingly!
Jan. 31-March 12 – Freaky Friday @ The La Jolla Playhouse Production of Disney’s
The musical Freaky Friday is playing from the end of January to the midle of March at the La Jolla Playhouse and is about a mom and daughter swapping bodies for a chaotic 24 hours. Its based on the novel and film.
Feb. 10-26 Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays – 9-5 the Musical – @ San Diego Musical Theater
9-5, a musical by Dolly Parton, is coming to San Diego Musical Theater. It is based on a book by Patricia Resnick and hit movie in 1980. This comedy is set in the Rolodex era and about women in a man’s world.
Feb. 18, 21, 24, and 26 – Falstaff @ San Diego Civic Theater
San Diego Civic Theater welcomes Falstaff, which is a play written by William Shakespeare. Fallstaff, who is also a character in three other plays by Shakespeare, loves women and wine. This comedy will have a modern point of view, pops of color, and designs.
Feb. 25 – Blameless @ The Old Globe Theatre
The Blameless, a family drama play, is by Nick Gandiello and directed by Gaye Taylor Upchurch. The cast is made up of Amara James Aja, Liza Colón-Zayas, Antoinette LaVecchia, Frank Pando, Stephen Barker Turner, and Carmen Zilles.
Feb. 26 – The Ten Tenors @ California Center for the Arts in Escondido
The Ten Tenors are finally back at the California Center for Arts in Escondido. They have a talented compilation of opera and rock music and take on some of the most dynamic songs in the world.
Feb. 26 – Farhad Darya @ Balboa Theatre
Farhad Darya is an Afghan singer, composer and music producer, who sings in various languages. He is currently on a World Tour.
Mar. 4 – California Ballet Company Presents: Peter Pan @ San Diego Civic Theatre
The classic and lovable play, Peter Pan is coming to San Diego Civic Theatre in March. There will be a mix of aerial ballet, slapstick, and classical dance.
Mar. 10 – Kinky Boots @ San Diego Civic Theatre
The musical sensation with songs by Cyndi Lauper is about friendship and the belief that you can change the world. The musical takes you from Northhampton to Milan and was also on Broadway.
Mar. 18 – Melandain Ballet Biarritz @ San Diego Civic Theatre
Melandain Ballet Biarritz is finally returning to San Diego, with new ballet. It is inspired by the well-known fairy tale, Beauty and the Beast.
