Blast Off at the Fleet in July

The Reuben H. Fleet Space Center is one of the treasures of Balboa Park and of San Diego. Summertime activities continue in July. Here are some highlights:

Back To The Moon For Good * Showing Monday through Thursday at 5 p.m. beginning July 14 * Immerse yourself in a race to return to the Moon * See how a competition among privately funded international teams is ushering in a new era of lunar exploration *

fleetjuly3Family Science Saturdays: Tinkering Skills Labs * Saturdays, July 5, 12, 19 and 26 * 1 to 3 p.m. * From soldering and sawing to hammering and drilling, hone your tinkering and building skills through a wide range of fantastic skill-based workshops * Activities free with paid admission to museum *

Tinkerers’ Club * Saturdays, July 5, 12, 19 and 26 * 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. * Learn new skills and work on fun projects that you get to take home with you * This month’s activities include creating a turbine, constructing a puzzle, building a catapult and designing your own wooden racing vehicle * Prices (per project): $12 members, $15 nonmembers * Advance registration is recommended *fleetjuly4

* Geocaching Challenge *  Saturday, July 12 * Noon to 2 p.m. * Hands-on scavenger hunt conducted by the Saturday Science Club for Girls * Learn the basics of GPS and navigation, and then put your skills to the test by tracking down hidden treasure planted in Balboa Park! * For girls in grades 5-8  * Second Saturday of each month *
