What to Expect from the Royal Visit

By  |

As second-in-line to the British throne, the public’s fixation on Prince William is nearly palpable.  But there is little doubt that the mere presence of his new wife, Kate Middleton, is stealing the show. Kate’s debut into the North American public is largely recognized as “a dress rehearsal for the rest of her public life,” according to the DailyMail.co.uk.

Like their Canadian tour, their California trip is going to be jam-packed with events and galas that will for sure keep the royal couple occupied.   Being in the public eye is certainly exhausting.  With so many people, including dignitaries, movie stars, and politicians lining up to meet them, it is a given that after the newly-weds’ North American tour, they will need a vacation from this vacation.

Prior to the royal couple’s Socal visit, the royal couple was up north, busy wooing the Canadian public over.  More than a million people crammed the streets of Ottawa to catch a glimpse of the newly-weds.    Kate dazzles in a purple Issa Jersey dress, one of the many outfits she dons that day, as she and Prince William joined hundreds of thousands of others on Parliament Hill to watch acts like Great Big Sea, Tragically Hip and Weezer perform.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge were the guests of honor at a ceremony in Ottawa that commemorated Canada Day on the country’s 144th birthday on July 1.

On the last leg of their North American outing, the Huffington Post reports that the newly-weds will be greeted by California Governor Jerry Brown and first lady Anne Gust Brown when they arrive at the Los Angeles International Airport Friday, July 8. The royal couple will be attending a reception scheduled that evening.

Up next on the itinerary is the BAFTA Brits to Watch event event that will be taking place Saturday, July 9 at the Belasco Theatre, Los Angeles, says a source from HollywoodReporter.  The gala is an event, where an expert BAFTA panel preselects 42 emerging British actors to commemorate.  The events aims to encourage and deepen British and American partnership in production and to forward the careers of UK talents in the production infrastructure.

One of the many crowns that Prince William wears includes his title as president of the British Academy of Film & Television Arts.  It is observed that he intends with his and his new wife’s appearance to strengthen the Brits’ role in the industry through his support in the BAFTA/LA black-tie event.

Prince William and Kate will also be attending the American Friends of the Foundation of Prince William and Prince Harry on the afternoon of July 9.  A charity polo match at the Santa Barbara Polo & Racquet Club will be held at the event, where Kate Middleton is expected to present the cup to the winning team.

On Sunday, July 10th, the couple will be attending a private reception for TUSK, an African conservation charity.  Afterwards, they will be visiting the Inner-City Arts School, a charity that assists children being brought up on Skid Row.

The Duke and Duchess will be staying at the British Consulate in Hancock Park during their 3-day stay in LA.
