Padres Opening Day & Opening Series Against LA Dodgers

By  |

It’s almost time to… Play Ball! The San Diego Padres home opener is today against rival Dodgers.  The 2016 Opening Series begins today with Tyson Ross set to take the mound before a sellout crowd just after 4pm. The home series will run through Wednesday, so if you couldn’t get tickets to tonight’s game, there’s still time.

The Opening Day pregame ceremony will feature all the pageantry of Opening Day, including an aerial demonstration by the United States Navy parachute team, the Leap Frogs, and the unfurling of the Holiday Bowl Big Flag, held by 275 Marines and Sailors from 3D Marine Aircraft Wing. The Ceremonial First Pitch will be thrown by Padres Hall of Famer Randy Jones. Singer/songwriter Tinashe will perform National Anthem, and later tonight will be performing at the House of Blues. The Anthem will be followed by a flyover by two Marine F/A-18 Deltas from the Vikings of VMFA(AW) 225. In addition, San Diego-based Petty Officer Yarrick Conner will perform God Bless America prior to the 7th inning stretch.

Every fan in attendance during the Opening Series will receive an Opening Series Rally Towel and each day of the series will feature a different towel design based on the newly unveiled 2016 Padres jerseys.

With a sellout crowd headed to the ballpark on Monday, fans attending the home opener are advised to arrive early. It is also highly suggested that you utilize public transportation because traffic will be in abundance. All Petco Park gates will open at 1:00 p.m. which will give fans the opportunity to watch the Padres take batting practice. Home team batting practice starts at approximately 1:15 p.m., followed by visitors’ batting practice at approximately 2:35 p.m. Fans should be in their seats no later than 3:30 p.m., so as not to miss a moment of the 2016 Opening Day pregame ceremony.

While Opening Day is sold out, tickets are still available for the other two games in the Opening Series, or for tickets all season long. They can be purchased at www.padres.com.

Tuesday’s 7:10 p.m. game against the Dodgers will be the first opportunity for fans to see the new LED ballpark lights used to their full entertainment capacity. Tuesday also marks the season’s first Taco Tuesday presented by Cholula Hot Sauce, with pollo asado street taco specials at locations throughout the ballpark.

Wednesday marks the first College Night of the season with DJ Happee spinning in the Budweiser Patio starting at 5:00 p.m. and discounted tickets starting at $10 for college students with a valid student ID.

San Diego resident for over 10 years, I now call this beautiful city home. Originally from the Bay Area, I'm a California girl at heart. I love the outdoors, fitness, food, and a good craft beer (from San Diego of course).
