Lady Gaga makes statement at VMAs

By  |

Lady Gaga has become synonymous with the VMAs. Whether it’s her performances, her speeches, or her choice of wardrobe, the world is always buzzing about Gaga.

With more nominations than anyone this year, Lady Gaga and her monsters have something to be proud of. She has dominated the charts and has made headlines around the globe. But what everyone is talking about today isn’t necessarily her music — it’s her outfits. Did you see them? If you were wondering, yes, one was made of meat.

Gaga wore three different dresses last night, including a dress Gaga proclaimed “fashion road kill.” Ironically the “roadkill” wasn’t the meat dress — it was a black ensemble she couldn’t walk in or even stand up in by herself.

The meat dress was reportedly designed by Sam the Butcher and included shredded pieces of raw meat as the dress, a slab of raw meat for a hat, and meat wrapped around her feet as shoes.  This is not the first time Lady Gaga has worn an outfit made of meat. She made sported a meat bikini on the cover of Vogue Hommes Japan.

Lady Gaga told Ellen DeGeneres in an interview that will air on DeGeneres’s show today that “it is certainly no disrespect to anyone that is vegan or vegetarian. As you know, I am the most judgment-free human being on the earth. However, it has many interpretations, but for me this evening … If we don’t stand up for what we believe in and if we don’t fight for our rights, pretty soon we’re going to have as much rights as the meat on our own bones.” Gaga also noted that she is ” not a piece of meat.”

Other than the meat dress, the other gowns Gaga donned last night included a black Armani gown and an Alexander McQueen gown. The Alexander McQueen was the least outlandish and worked overall.  It was the most elegant of the three, and I’m sure the people sitting behind her can thank her for wearing a much smaller head-dress than she did last year.

San Diego resident for over 10 years, I now call this beautiful city home. Originally from the Bay Area, I'm a California girl at heart. I love the outdoors, fitness, food, and a good craft beer (from San Diego of course).
