Beauty & The Beast: A Tale As Old As Time

By  |

Originally written in French in 1740, Le Belle et la Bệte, or Beauty and the Beast as we call it in America, is a favorite classic for people young and old. The romantic story of a sweet, young girl changing the heart of a beast with her love, inspires us all to love those around us with kindness. Taken on by Disney in 1991, the cartoon version of this classic became a box office hit and is still cherished today. Christmas and other adaptations were made to continue the story of Belle and her Beast, and now Disney has made a live-action telling of the story.

Re-live the wonder and magic of this enchanting fairy tale on March 17th. This film will be available in 3D and IMAX so that you can truly place yourself into each scene. Let Emma Watson steal your heart away with her innocence in her role as Belle. This 26-year-old actress, known mainly for her role as Hermione in Harry Potter, brings a gentleness to this role with a voice that closely matches that of the original cartoon version singer, Paige O’Hara.

For the Kiddos

If you have little ones at home, they are probably almost as excited as you are for the release of “Beauty and the Beast.” This PG movie is a great introduction to the classic fairy tale for children of all ages. Let’s face it–movie prices keep going up and so going to the movies is a bigger deal than it used to be. Turn this movie-watching opportunity into a party for your kids to gather, play, and let their imaginations run wild. Grab some discounted tickets at Costco for your kids and a couple of their friends and plan to dress up for the showing. Dust off that costume that you bought last Halloween, and let it bring the magic back. Perhaps have a little tea party set up for after the movie and let your kids pretend that Chip and Mrs. Potts are sitting right there with them.

For the 90’s Babies

Those who were born or raised in the 90’s have a special affinity to this story, as it came out in their childhood. Watch the original movie with a couple of your closest girlfriends and remind yourself of your favorite songs. Erase Hermione from your memory and let Emma Watson lure you into another new favorite. End the night with a road trip along the coast, blasting the soundtrack and singing your heart out.

Have politics been turning you into a beast? Consider using this as an opportunity to promote love and kindness, allowing yourself to create spaces to listen to those with opposing views and giving both sides permission to not have it all figured out.
