Financial Tip of the Week: Empowering yourself by asking a few simple questions

By  |

San Diego Entertainer’s own financial expert, Steve Sexton, provides the Channel 6 San Diego Living show with financial tips throughout the month. We are thankful to be able to share his financial expertise with our readers as well.

Knowing how best to invest your money is something almost everyone wants to know, that is why we turn to financial advisors. Financial advisors have the knowledge and understanding of financial terms and the “market.” Although you may turn to your advisor for guidance and assistance, it is important to educate yourself with specific questions to ask your advisor. Empowering yourself by asking simple, yet important questions is extremely crucial for your own personal financial knowledge. Steve suggests you ask the following questions:

  1. What are the fees?
  2. What is the taxable impact?
  3. What is the short term and long term risk?

If you know the answers to those questions you’ll make sound decisions based on facts. A lot of people tend to make decisions based off of emotion or an article they just read in the paper, when they should be making decisions based on facts.
