San Diego Chargers’ Phillip Rivers Reported to Have Agreed to Extension

The Phillip Rivers era in San Diego Charger history seems to have taken one giant leap toward reality as Entertainer sources have confirmed reports that the Chargers’ Pro Bowl quarterback has agreed to a six-year extension with the team.

Supposedly, the contract for Rivers, who is 27 years of age, will include $38.5 million in guaranteed money and the total of the overall deal could reach $92 million. Rivers will make slightly more than $50 million over the first three years of the deal, according to the San Diego Union-Tribune.

Phillip Rivers signed with the Chargers when he was the No. 4 overall pick in the 2004 draft. He would have become an unrestricted free agent next offseason.

He finished the 2008 campaign with 4,009 yards through the air, leading the NFL with a quarterback rating of 105.5, throwing 34 touchdowns against just 11 interceptions. If the deal becomes final, and it certainly appears as though it will, Rivers will ironically be in the same rarified atmosphere as that of Eli manning; yes, the same one who refused to come to San Diego and recently inked a similarly obscene deal the New York Giants.
