By  |

The San Diego Entertainer’s own financial expert, Steve Sexton, provides the Channel 6 San Diego Living show with financial tips throughout the month. We are thankful to be able to share his financial expertise with our readers.

Last week on the segment, Sexton gave financial advice on how to avoid common mistakes when filing taxes. This week, he gave advice on learning the questions to ask before making a big decision, so you are able to make decisions that are in YOUR best interest.

Most people that are planning to sell a home or retire are doing it just one time, but most people don’t realize the tax implications regarding these onetime –big ticket items. People make decisions like this all the time, but they are unaware of the hundreds and thousands of dollars they can be saving with proper planning.

Sexton goes over a series of questions that should be asked and thoroughly understood. Questions such as: “What is the taxable impact of making this life decision and what strategies can be implemented to lower or eliminate those taxes?” Additionally he asks, “What do you need from a return to make sure your life works the way you want it to, and how do you pass it off to someone you love with the least amount of taxes possible to them?”

While, it is important to work with someone who will ask those amongst other important questions, it is even more important that they translate it to a language you can understand, which Sexton does.
