2010 is coming to a glorious end with a frenzy of fantastic events lined up to close out a busy year! Get the champagne and noise makers ready to welcome another great 365 days of music, art, sports and parties in San Diego!
Concerts and Shows
Start the celebrations early with one of the amazing music talents visiting the San Diego area on Thursday 12/30. Rocking the turntables at Bar West in Pacific Beach is DJ Kurch for a special birthday celebration, while Inspired Flight, Jamuel Saxon, and Griefshare hit up The Casbah. My personal recommendation is to hit up the House of Blues as Casbah presents The Dresden Dolls with Jason Webley. The punk cabaret duo, which consists of Amanda Palmer and Brian Viglione, has reunited for a short tour after a hiatus in 2008.
If you missed out on the chance to check out Traffic’s Dave Mason at Anthology Thursday night, don’t worry, he’s also taking the stage on New Year’s Eve for Feelin’ Alright 2011 as attendees are treated to a four-course meal along with a champagne toast at midnight. Sounds like a wonderful way to welcome 2011 with a loved one.
Be sure to check out this year’s Holiday Bowl at Qualcomm Stadium with the Nebraska Cornhuskers and Washington Huskies. Kick-off is at 7pm Thursday night, but the celebrations can start as early as 8:30am with a yummy breakfast at the Hornblower Inspiration while viewing America’s Largest Balloon Parade around Downtown SD. The athleticism doesn’t stop there.
On New Year’s Day, the rescheduled match between the scantily-clad buxom beauties of Seattle Mist and San Diego Seduction is set to take place at the San Diego Sports Arena at 9pm. Then be sure to check out the Holiday of Lights display at the Del Mar Fairgrounds, the last day to experience the illuminated wonderland is Sunday, January 2nd.
New Year’s Eve in San Diego
No matter where you turn in the downtown San Diego Gaslamp Quarter this weekend, there is sure to be an awesome event waiting for you. Pretty much every club, bar, or lounge will be holding a special event to ring in the new year with champagne toasts and a music entertainment.
The Hard Rock is hosting a rocking kick-off to the new year. With 11 DJs rocking the house on three different floors, including Robbie Rivera at Legends, Eric D-Lux and Craig Smoove at 207, and Chris Garcia with Tony Arzadon at Float/Woodstock, 2011 is sure to start off with a bang. Other events include the Big Night New Years Eve Gala at the Hilton San Diego Bayfront and Epic NYE with Jason Ross, DJ Homicide, Ferry Corsten, Afrojack, and Hypercrush in Del Mar.
The House of Blues will host a New Year’s Eve 2011 Block Party presented by Victory Nightlife. The legendary venue has a line-up of dance performances and awesome DJs to bring the house down for the start of the new year. Check out last year’s HOB Block Party video below:
