This Weekend in SD: Padres, Parties, and Pacific Beach

By  |

It’s a busy Spring here in San Diego County. Discover new bites and brews from around the world, explore Las Vegas luxury in the Gaslamp Quarter, and indulge your ears at concert all in one weekend.  See what exciting events are happening near you!

Sports & Competion

Support the local San Diego Padres as they face our northern neighbors, the Los Angeles Dodgers (or should I sayYang-nas?), through the weekend. They will be playing at Petco Park from Friday through Sunday, so be sure to get out there and cheer them on!

Still going on through April 9th is this year’s Ultimate Boarder Competition. Head up to Cardiff by the Sea to witness some amazing athletes tests their limits and skills on snowboards, skateboards, and surfboards. Even canines like to exhibit their athleticism, so come check out the BMDCA National Specialty Dog Show at the Del Mar Fairgrounds.

Performances & Concerts

With so many wonderful music and concert venues around San Diego, there is always a cornucopia of talented artists stopping by to perform, yet only a few of which we can manage to mention here. Starting off the weekend early this Thursday is a Corigliano Percussion Concerto at Copley Symphony Hall as well as a final San Diego performance from Sleepytime Gorilla Museum at the Casbah. Meanwhile recording artist Dev, featured on Far East Movement’s smash single “Like a G6,” will be at On Broadway to perform her hit song “Bass Down Low,” which has been hitting the radio airwaves like a storm.

Taking the Rimac Arena stage this weekend is Rise Against with Bad Religion and Four Year Strong Friday, April 8. Meanwhile rocking the House of Blues is G. Love and Special Sauce with The Belle Brigade (Fri 04/08), Pete Yorn with Ben Kweller & The Wellspring (Sat 04/09), finally closing out Sunday with Volbeat on the mainstage and a free Voodoo Stage show from Chamberlin.

Do you think you have undiscovered musical talent of your own? Well this Friday, April 8th, is the last day to sign-up your band to compete in Musicpalooza at this year’s San Diego County Fair this summer for a grand prize of $5000. So submit your form and start rehearsing!
Parties & Nightlife

Come join us at the Nikki Beach Las Vegas Grand Opening Touring Party at the Ivy Nightclub on Friday for cocktails, dancing, and entertainment. Before the big Memorial Day Grand Opening White Party of Nikki Beach at the newly-remodeled Tropicana, get a peek into the sophisticated luxury that is Nikki Beach as they tour through the US and internationally to show guests what Nikki Beach Las Vegas is all about. There will be a hosted bar from 9pm-11pm featuring signature cocktails and a line-up of some of the hottest DJs rocking the turntables.

If that isn’t enough, Friday night is packed even more exciting events. The Hard Rock is hosting Halfway to Halloween at 207 featuring 3 floors, 4 venues, and 12 DJs. Come dressed in costume or dressed to impress and have some fun all night long. If you’re over in PB that night, stop by PB Bar & Grill from 5pm-9pm for the Miss Pacific Beach Competition Launch Party. It will be the first of a series of events leading to the crowning of Miss Pacific Beach later this year.
Fun with Food

Be a part of a live audience for  taping of the “Great American Chefs Tour” as they feature some of San Diego’s hottest chefs. Try out their culinary creations paired with wine & beer tastings this Thursday  at the House of Blues. Hopefully you got tickets early for the already sold out CityBeat Festival of Beers in front of the Lafayette Hotel. There is still a chance to attend Rhythm & Vine at Westfield North County for a night of wine tasting and music.
