March Madness 2017: Final Four Preview

By  |

The madness is almost over and the final four teams are facing off this weekend. With the championship game in Phoenix next Monday, both Saturday games should be a thrill.

No. 1 Gonzaga vs. No. 7 South Carolina — 3:09pm tip-off on CBS

Despite having a solid and talented basketball team over the years, it’s Gonzaga’s first time to the Final Four in school history. They toppled Xavier last Saturday with a lead of over 20 points, the final score 83-59. South Carolina, who trailed at halftime during their game against Florida, came back to win 77-70. SC also hasn’t been to the final four, so the match with these two newbies could be pretty unpredictable. It’s been 21 years since there’s been a Final Four game with two teams who haven’t been there before.

No. 1 North Carolina vs. No. 3 Oregon — 5:49pm tip-off on CBS

North Carolina pulled off a last second win against Kentucky last Sunday, coming out on top at 75-73. Oregon won in convincing fashion against Kansas on Saturday, with a final score at 74-60. These two teams are ranked pretty closely, but North Carolina is the heavy favorite. NC lost at the last moment in last year’s final, so the team is looking for redemption this time around. Oregon won the first ever NCAA tournament back in 1939, which doesn’t say much about their chances this weekend but is a testament to a long-awaited potential victory.
