2011 Carlsbad Marathon & Half Details

The 2011 Carlsbad Marathon and 1/2 Marthon will take place on January 23rd, benefiting the Tri-City Medical Center. This years event sold out months ago, but spectators are always welcome. People wishing to participate may also be able to buy an entry from someone who has previously purchased one, as transfers are allowed.

Next Sunday, January 23 it is estimated that over 10,000 runners will descend on the city, coming from all over the US to run in San Diego’s favorable January climate. The run will take participants either 26.2 or 13.1 miles through the Carlsbad Village, along PCH, by local beaches and lagoons, starting and finishing at the Westfield Plaza Camino Real.

The race starts at 6am for marathoners and 7:30 for 1/2 marathoners. Expect major traffic delays if you’re planning on running, attending, or if you live in the area.

Both spectators and runners will enjoy course entertainment, featuring bands playing every mile.

The race weekend also includes the Health and Fitness Expo and Kids Marathon Mile. The Health and Fitness Expo will feature exciting  vendors, interactive displays, free samples, and bargains on apparel and equipment. Free and open  to  the public, the Expo is also where all marathoners and half marathoners pick up their timing tag, bib number, T-shirt and goodie bag. The Expo will be held on Friday, Jan. 21  (2- 6 p.m.), Saturday, Jan. 22  (10 a.m. -5 p.m.) and Sunday, Jan. 23 (7 a.m.-noon) under a big top tent at the Westfield Plaza Camino Real, located at 2525 El Camino Real El Camino Real in Carlsbad.

The Kids Marathon Mile is set for 8 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 22, at LEGOLAND®. This event is geared  for children  age 12  and under. This one-mile, noncompetitive, age-staged  run/walk winds through  the LEGOLAND theme park.

The Tri-City Medical Center Carlsbad Marathon works with 19 charities that use the event to raise funds and  awareness through  their association  with  the event.
