Sprinkles Cupcakes opens in San Diego

By  |

Sprinkles CupcakesThe widely popular LA and Orange County cupcake chain, Sprinkles Cupcakes, is opening its doors in San Diego for the first time today.

In the day-and-age of Cupcake Wars on Food Network, Cups La Jolla, Cupcakes Squared, Babycakes, Heavenly Cupcakes, and Cupcake Love to name a few, it is no doubt the cupcakerie trend is huge. The self-proclaimed “world’s first cupcake bakery” started it all.

The original Beverly Hills shop was opened in 2005 by Candace Nelson, who now appears as a judge on the popular Food Network reality show Cupcake Wars. Nelson has seen wide ranging success — appearing on shows from Martha Stewart, Tyra Banks, and Regis and Kelly.

Not only does their celebrity appeal (including an endorsement by Oprah, which we all now will make a business boom), the bakery sets itself apart in other ways. Cupcakes aren’t just baked in the morning like many of the competition’s confections. Sprinkles bakers are in the kitchen throughout the day. This way, consumers are guaranteed the very best most moist cupcakes available.

After making several trips to Irvine to pick up these sweet confections, myself and fellow San Diegans are excited to have a Sprinkles in our own backyard. Perfectly positioned in the La Jolla/UTC area, students, shoppers, and foodies alike will likely flock to taste these sweet treats.

Sprinkles Cupcakes is opening its doors today, Thursday, January 13 in The Shops at La Jolla Village, near Whole Foods.

Cupcakes are baked daily with varying selections each day. The price for one cupcake is $3.50 — which is about average among all cupcake shops in the area.

8855 La Jolla Village Drive
Open Monday – Saturday: 9am-7pm and Sunday: 10am – 6m

San Diego resident for over 10 years, I now call this beautiful city home. Originally from the Bay Area, I'm a California girl at heart. I love the outdoors, fitness, food, and a good craft beer (from San Diego of course).
