New Burger Joint Brings Local Ingredients, Quality Meats, and “Concrete” to San Diego

By  |

Bunz logoExecutive Chef and restaurateur Jeff Rossman has opened a new farm-to-table breakfast and burger spot that is gearing up to be one of San Diego’s best. Bunz (www.bunzsd.com) prides itself in using humanely raised meat, responsibly-sourced ingredients and the freshest locally grown ingredients. And they are serving concrete.

For the un-enlightened, concretes are dense and delicious frozen shakes — so dense you can hold the cup upside down without losing a drop. These aren’t your usual milk shakes, to say the least (although they do have traditional shakes on the menu too). Bunz is the first restaurant in town to serve concretes.

Many may know Rossman’s name from his work at Terra American Bistro. Following the trend of many high-end restaurateurs, Rossman has created Bunz, where diners can enjoy a casual environment and quality ingredients like Certified Humane Meyer’s Natural Angus beef, buns from Bread & Cie and Sadie Rose (choose your own bun: sesame, brioche, whole wheat, ciabatta or protein-style), housemade condiments and locally grown produce from Suzie’s Organic Farm and other area growers whenever possible. The best part is, all menu items are under $10!

Bunz is opening today, so don’t miss out. Just look at the menu and you’ll want to head down to Bunz to try it out. Menu items include flat-top hot dogs, local craft beer, breakfast items, breakfast cocktails, shakes and a beer float made with caramel and Stone Smoked Porter.

Enjoy the “Three Li’l Pigs,” a burger with smoked bacon, ham, pulled pork, beer thyme mustard, aged cheddar, lettuce, tomato, grilled onions. Or try out the “Cowboy,” with smoked bacon, onion rings, housemade beer bbq sauce, aged cheddar, roasted poblano pepper, lettuce, tomato. Or go for the “Mission Valley (flat-top dog)” which has smoked bacon, garlic-sauteed mushroom, housemade beer thyme mustard, and housemade ketchup. Can you say mmmmm?

The restaurant opens today! Check out bunzsd.com for more info.

San Diego resident for over 10 years, I now call this beautiful city home. Originally from the Bay Area, I'm a California girl at heart. I love the outdoors, fitness, food, and a good craft beer (from San Diego of course).
