Dunkin Donuts and Krispy Kreme Celebrate National Donut Day

National Donut Day does not discriminate: maple bars, strawberry filled jelly, crullers, sprinkled and glazed are all included in today’s celebration.  What American can resist the delectable taste of fried dough? National chains such as Dunkin Donuts and Krispy Kreme are commemorating in a big way as well.

Dunkin Donuts is offering a free donut with beverage purchase at all participating locations throughout the United States.  Their twitter account is brimming with comments, especially to the posed question, “What donut did you get in celebration of National Donut Day?” Unfortunately for San Diegans, Dunkin Donuts is nowhere nearby.

But wait, there’s still Krispy Kreme.

Krispy Kreme is taking the unofficial national holiday to the next level. They are offering a free donut to customers without purchase and at all participating locations in the US and Canada. Aside from the staple glazed donut, they also offer delectable pastries such as New York Cheesecake, custard filled, caramel Kreme crunch and apple fritters.

There are several local donut shops as well.  Rose Donuts in Linda Vista is famed for their apple fritter and raved about on Yelp, “Oh my! The Apple Fitter Donut was my first donut in a long time. That combined with a need for something, anything sweet made this donut taste absolutely out of this world!” says Janet O. Golden Donut on University is the place for a fresh glazed treat. Will O. says it all, “Bottom line: 5 stars here for the glazed donut. Best glazed plain donut in SD no problem. Here is why- light, crisp, delicious, not too much glaze and not at all greasy.”
