Karl Strauss releases new, outstanding IPA Aurora Hoppyalis

By  |

Karl Strauss has discovered something special. Years ago, when all you could find in bars and brewpubs was Red Trolley, the brand was not established as one of the top San Diego breweries, despite their long-standing tradition of brewing in America’s Finest City. With immense competition in the market, the prospect of creating an IPA that truly stands out must be daunting. Today, Karl Strauss has not one, but many that get the attention of craft beer lovers.

auroraThis month, Karl Strauss is celebrating the release of their newest IPA, Aurora Hoppyalis. During the month of April, stop into any of their brewpubs and enjoy a glass of the delicious Aurora Hoppyalis IPA. For just $10, you get a fill and a commemorative glass you see here. “It optimizes aromatics, and the etched-in nucleation helps that gorgeous frothy head last ’til your final sip,” the brewery said in a press release today.

With nine locations throughout San Diego, you can surely get in on this deal. Or you can find Aurora Hoppyalis on draft and in bottles at many liquor and grocery stores throughout the state.

Aurora Hoppyalis is a San Diego-style IPA brewed with Simcoe, Mosaic, Amarillo, and Citra hops. Robust flavors and aromas of tropical fruit, pine, and tangerine linger through a dry, crisp finish. It won Bronze in the 2015 Great American Beer Festival for International Style Pale Ale.

Wondering what other outstanding beers they’ve got on tap? My personal favorite is the Mosaic Session IPA which is super drinkable, fruity and refreshing. On the Karl Strauss website, they say the beer “is bursting with vibrant grapefruit aroma and flavors of citrus and tropical fruit. Our signature dry-hopping technique delivers an incredibly drinkable lower ABV beer without sacrificing hop appeal. From a small test batch to the bottle you now hold in your hands, this isn’t a one-and-done beer. Sit back, have a few, and enjoy your session.”

It has won several awards, including:

Gold: 2015 LA International Commercial Beer Competition
Silver: 2015 AIBA (Australian International Beer Awards)
Gold: 2014 CA State Commercial Beer Competition
Bronze: 2014 LA International Commercial Beer Competition
Bronze: 2014 Great American Beer Festival — Session

San Diego resident for over 10 years, I now call this beautiful city home. Originally from the Bay Area, I'm a California girl at heart. I love the outdoors, fitness, food, and a good craft beer (from San Diego of course).
