“See how the girl next door undresses!”

A burlesque show is a thing of beauty. With music throbbing throughout the audience and a beautiful woman on<a href="http://www.sdentertainer.com/nightlife/events-nightlife/hell-on-heels-burlseque-san-diego/attachment/the-girls-play-backstage-during-intermission/"rel="attachment wp-att-31802" >stage, slowly removing her glittering costume layer by layer, burlesque commands attention. However, the attention burlesque receives is not always positive and is often very controversial. Some see it as an incredibly powerful representation of female empowerment and sexuality, while others view it in much the same way they view strip clubs. The latter view is incredibly misguided and San Diego’s very own Hell on Heels Burlesque Revue is here to prove it.

Blending comedic skits with strip teases, burlesque shows are full of variety and became incredibly popular in America in the 1860s. Within the past ten years we have seen a resurgence of classic burlesque, with troupes emerging to put on shows filled with glamour and the suggestion of complete nudity. One can find a form of burlesque in so many places and with famous burlesque figures, like the gorgeous Dita Von Teese, burlesque is quickly rooting itself within present-day American culture. While burlesque is appearing in Hollywood films, television, and online videos, the best way to experience<a href="http://www.sdentertainer.com/nightlife/events-nightlife/hell-on-heels-burlseque-san-diego/attachment/ginger-n-whiskey-sparkles-during-her-new-orleans-inspired-routine/"rel="attachment wp-att-31809" > it is to seek out an actual troupe and attend a live show.

“See how the girl next door undresses” is the tagline for the Hell on Heels Burlesque Revue and it does not disappoint. The group is filled with gorgeous women who are incredibly powerful and comfortable with themselves in a way that is rarely seen in the media. Here is a group of real women, with real bodies, and each one with the power to hypnotize an entire audience. It is impossible to merely watch a Hell on Heels show because each person finds themselves so wrapped up in the performances that they can’t help feeling connected to the women on stage. There’s something almost spiritual in the way these girls celebrate their bodies, allowing all women to see themselves in a new light, something that is a rarity in today’s body-conscious society. Claudia Garcia, the manager of Hell on Heels, can’t talk about the group without her swelling pride showing in her smile:

“Many times women and men approach us after shows and say how thankful they are to see women with figures onstage. I’m sure it helps empower women in the audience. Maybe they think, ‘If they have confidence to do that, so can I!’ We may not be model perfect, but that’s what makes us the girl next door – fun, glamorous, empowered, beautiful!”

Burlesque allows women to command their own sexuality and in turn, is a very female-driven landscape. Women<a href="http://www.sdentertainer.com/nightlife/events-nightlife/hell-on-heels-burlseque-san-diego/attachment/a-bird-in-a-gilden-cage-honey-dew-melons-is-delicate-and-alluring-copy/"rel="attachment wp-att-31806" > perform for themselves and oftentimes the performances, while always creative and playful, pay homage to powerful women of the past. These homages allow women to take control of male-written feminine history and present their own image on top of that history. Unlike dances at strip clubs, burlesque performances are not created out of male desire, but are instead an organic display of feminine beauty and power. A burlesque performer demands attention and forces the audience to see her in any way she wants to be seen. It allows women to take complete control of their sexuality, empowering themselves and in turn, empowering the women in the audience. Burlesque troupes like Hell on Heels hold up feminine beauty, strip the stereotypes away, and demand that women of all shapes and color be revered for who they are.

Join the Hell on Heels Burlesque Revue in celebrating feminine beauty at their next show, entitled “Dying on a Saturday Night: A Misfits Promenade.” Happening on October 22 at Brick by Brick, the Hell on Heels girls, with special guests Miss Joy Ryder and Mama Bodessa, will perform alongside live music performed by The Strikers.

On Friday September 9, the streets of Downtown San Diego will be filled with more than 6,000 beer lovers, 70 craft breweries, four bands and 600 volunteers for the 17th annual, 100 percent volunteer-driven, cancer-cause motivated San Diego Festival of Beer.

This non-smoking event, open to those age 21 and up, will feature two stages of live music from Len Rainey and the Midnight Players, Night Shift, 5 Miles High and Rifftide. The event commences at 6 p.m., wraps up at 11 p.m. and tickets cost $40 at the gate.

Admission comes with 10 4 oz. beer samples, but only the first 6,000 guests receive a souvenir event logo tasting mug to use throughout the evening and to keep when the event is over. If you can’t get there early and miss out on the souvenir tasting mug, don’t worry, Beer Festival merchandise will also be available for purchase inside the gates.

<a href="http://www.sdentertainer.com/nightlife/events-nightlife/san-diego-beer-festival-17th-annual/attachment/tabletopflipper/"rel="attachment wp-att-30231" >

On most Friday nights, San Diegans seeking a night on the town could expect to pay as much as half the Festival ticket cost just for entry into a Gaslamp-area bar or nightclub, not to mention drinking once inside the bar. But, since proceeds from the Festival are donated to charity, the Festival of Beer is not just an opportunity to have a good time and taste more than 150 craft beers; it’s also a chance to donate money to fight cancer.

San Diego Professionals Against Cancer (SDPAC) is a 100 percent volunteer-driven organization dedicated to generating money for cancer research, patient treatment, and services through fund-raising events; the Festival of Beer is SDPAC’s flagship event.

During the past 17 years, SDPAC has raised and donated more than $500,000 to cancer-fighting organizations. By requesting participating breweries donate beer at the brewery’s expense, having no paid employees on staff and hiring volunteers to sell merchandise and hand out tickets, SDPAC is able to maximize the amount of proceeds given to charity.

In June 2010, SDPAC presented a check to Rady Children’s Hospital for $100,000 in support of their upcoming expansion. Ledcor, a group of companies focused on giving back to the community, offered to match SDPAC’s donation dollar-for-doller. With the $200,000 donated, the hospital was able to purchase a new MRI machine to equip its new Acute Care Pavilion.

This year, not only will attendees be able to sample beer from breweries such as the Alaskan Brewing Company, Anchor Brewing, Deschutes Brewery, Karl Strauss Brewing Company, Pacific Beach AleHouse, Pizza Port and Stone Brewery, among countless others, wine will also be available. In the event that an attendee quickly exhausts the 10 free samplers, more are available for purchase: 10 samplers for $10 or five samplers for $5.

If you’d like to the chance to earn free tickets to the Festival of Beer enter your email address here for the chance to win two free tickets. The deadline for entry is Sept. 4th at 11:59PM. Winners will be announced and have their tickets mailed to them on Sept. 5th.

The San Diego Spirits Festival is returning for the third time this weekend, June 25-26, offering tastings from brands such as Milagro Tequila, Sailor Jerry Rum and Svedka Vodka.

This year the event will be at a new location, the Port Pavilion on Broadway Pier near Downtown — what the event coordinators describe as “an expansive oasis surrounded by the sparkling San Diego Bay.”

According to its website, the San Diego Spirits Festival is “a two-day celebration of spirits, cocktails and local culture (and) the only event of its kind on the West Coast.” It will feature dozens of alcohol vendors, artists, educational seminars, bartending competitions, live music, a cabaret-themed VIP party, and unlimited food and cocktail tastings.

Radio station Sophie@ 103.7 will also be hosting “A Musical Cocktail,” which will present live performances of several local bands, including Skyler Stonestreet, The Darrows and Josh Damigo on Saturday, Dominic Balli on Sunday, and Kevin Martin on both days.

Many new brands will debut at the festival this year, including the highly anticipated launching of Tempest, a brand based out of La Jolla and created by Mark Scialdone of Suspend Spirits. The alcohol is a green tea liqueur with a mystical blend of six intoxicating herbs and absinthe.

The 2011 festival will also be the first to feature artists. “This year, 32 of San Diego’s best artists will be exhibiting their work in the public forecourt upon entering the venue,” event founder Liz Edwards told sandiego.com. “We want everyone to be visually wowed with what we have going on.”

Returning this year will be the cocktail competitions, with 16 of the city’s most talented mixologists competing. The semi-finals will be held on Saturday and the finals will be Sunday.

For Edwards, the goal is for creators and consumers of spirits to mingle in a fun environment. “I’d love to be able to showcase this type of event here and bring about some resurgence in the cocktail lounge scene,” she said.

One-day tickets for the festival can be purchased starting at $60 and include unlimited tastings. VIP tickets can also be purchased beginning at $90 and include access to the bartender battle and admission to the elite Saturday night after-party.

The hottest combination of wine and music will be making its way to FLUXX nightclub next Wednesday as part of the new WineRave series.

The event, described as being tailored to the millennial generation, is meant to combine the energizing ambiance of a nightclub with the engaging conversations of a tasting room.

“Today’s idea of a wine connoisseur is rapidly changing to include a younger demographic of consumers who are showing an early interest in wine,” Michelle Metter, co-owner of producer Fast Forward Event Productions, said. “WineRave acknowledges that change and provides a way for emerging wine enthusiasts to explore their tastes, while catering to them in an environment that 21-35 year-olds can easily relate to.”

The new series kicks off at FLUXX on June 22 from 7-10 p.m. with subsequent dates to be announced.

“WineRave takes your traditional wine tasting and turns it upside down,” marketing coordinator for Fast Forward Productions, Jessica Gago, said. “Instead of setting the wine tasting in a traditional tasting room environment, WineRave invites you to the energizing ambiance of San Diego’s hottest new nightclub … This event is unlike any other.”

Gago said the best part about WineRave is it’s date and time. The Wednesday date makes parking easier and–for those who want to enjoy San Diego’s nightlife afterward–eliminates the worry of standing in long lines. And wine lovers who have to work the next day needn’t worry, as the event ends with enough time to get a good night’s sleep.

The idea originally started as an event during the San Diego Bay Wine & Food Festival, but due to high demand and popularity, is now branching out as its own affair with a unique mission.

“WineRave’s goal is to provide a unique wine-tasting experience for a collective of up-and-coming wine and spirits consumers,” Gago said. “It’s a great chance to connect with other young wine enthusiasts, nosh on a great array of delicious gourmet appetizers, and sample wines, brews and spirits from the industry’s finest purveyors.”

The dress code for the event will be upscale and trendy. Absolutely no shorts, sandals, ball caps, athletic wear or excessively baggy clothing will be admitted.

Tickets to WineRave include access to FLUXX, tastings of specialty wines and premium spirits, a selection of appetizers, music from entertainment DJ JSoul, specially priced handcrafted cocktails from FLUXX mixologists and a streaming Tweet wall with live updates from the event. Tickets can be purchased in advance at the event’s website for $45 or for $60 at the door the night of the event.

<a href="http://www.sdentertainer.com/nightlife/events-nightlife/san-diego-county-fair-tuesday-discounts/attachment/sdfair/"rel="attachment wp-att-26708" >Music, food, laughs, what more could San Diegans ask for? If you’re looking for a good time with a great value, don’t miss the San Diego fair on Tuesdays.

For just three bucks, less than the cost of a gallon of gas, you can gain entrance to this fun filled, action packed event. All you have to do is just spend a five dollar minimum purchase with your Albertson’s Preferred Card, and you can buy your three dollar admission ticket. Normal admission is thirteen dollars so don’t miss out on this great deal. Plus, you can park at Horsepark at no cost and use the free shuttle service to get to the fair. Horsepark is located east Interstate 5 at Via de la Valle and El Camino Real.

The deals don’t stop there though. Tuesdays are also Kid’s Day where any children 12 and under can get in for free. There’s a ton for kids to do too. The fair features its family friendly area called The Infield which includes Kiddieland rides, children’s entertainment, and Creative Youth, which showcases thousands of creations by elementary school students.

And if you’re hungry, you can be your own food critic for just two bucks. You’ll have the opportunity to grab the popular taster size portions from tons of the fairs featured good eats, keeping your appetite and wallet full.

If that isn’t music to your ears, A Flock of Seagulls performing for the Ford Dealers Paddock Series at the fair on Tuesday will be. The Grammy award-winning hit British group, known for their hit songs I Ran (So Far Away), Space Age Love Song, and Wishing (If I Had a Photograph of You) will entertain you at the fair’s intimate setting. A Flock of Seagulls is part of the Paddock Series multi-artist tour featured at the fair with this great lineup. They’ll come on stage at 9:00 PM so be ready.

If there’s not a smile on your face already, comedian Bill Engvall will change that. The Toyota Summer Concert series is coming to the Grandstand Stage at the fair. Engvall will be there for one night only; Tuesday is a day not to miss. Engvall’s tagline “Here’s your sign” has made him a hilarious sensation all around the country. Bill performs at 7:30 PM so plan ahead to get a good seat. You can get details about the Grandstand Stage and more upcoming performances by other great artists here.

<a href="http://www.sdentertainer.com/nightlife/events-nightlife/san-diego-county-fair-tuesday-discounts/attachment/billengvall/"rel="attachment wp-att-26710" >

Neither the Flock of Seagulls concert nor Bill Engvall’s performance has any reserved seating. Both are free to attend with your general admission ticket. No strings attached.

For just three dollars, on an otherwise quiet Tuesday, you can have a blast with the whole family at the San Diego county fair, enjoy a great comedy show, experience a live music performance by an award-winning group, and have your appetite fed for two more dollars. If only every Tuesday was this great.

Check out the fair’s official site for all the information and directions you’ll need.

<a href="http://www.sdentertainer.com/nightlife/events-nightlife/san-diego-seaworld-new-killer-whale-show-one-ocean/attachment/whales/"rel="attachment wp-att-26001" >SeaWorld Orlando opened a New Killer Whale Show last Friday. Over 4,000 people watched the premier of SeaWorld’s new show called “One Ocean” at Shamu Stadium. The crowd saw new tricks, new costumes and heard an original score.

“One Ocean” will debut at the San Diego SeaWorld on Memorial Day and the park in San Antonio will debut the new show on June 10.

The “One Ocean” show is replacing another SeaWorld show called “Believe,” which had been running since 2006. The Orlando park changed the show after killer whale Tillikum killed trainer Dawn Brancheau in February 2010. Witnesses of the tragic incident said Tillikum pulled her underwater by her ponytail.

During Friday’s new performance, most female trainers kept their hair pulled tightly in a bun. Although the trainers still interacted with the whales, they were kept out of the water. The change has sparked mixed reviews from visitors. One annual visitor, Amanda Loth, said the show lacked the same pizazz. “When they used to dive in and be with the whale, it was just more of a show, more of a spectacle. It was just amazing. It’s a shame they can’t do it now. It’s a shame.” Loth said.

Curator of animal training, Kelly Flaherty Clark said, “If and when we get back in the water, it will be after we invest all our safety protocols and facility modifications and equipment for our trainers.”

The show debuted on Earth Day in order to better relate the message behind the show, which is how we all come together on this planet Earth that is surrounded by one ocean. A new show would not be complete without a new set. According to the SeaWorld website, “the set at Shamu Stadium is three stories tall, 80 feet long, and takes the form of an immense killer whale fluke. The colors of the ocean’s spectrum are incorporated in the set, from cobalt blue, to aquamarine and even royal purple, while its center reflects the vivid yellows and oranges of a sunrise over the sea. Dozens of hand-crafted, translucent animal figures adorn the set and reflect sunlight.”

The information on the SeaWorld website also describes the set as having a total of “35 programmable fountains, arcing up to 50 feet across the pool, ring Shamu Stadium and are synchronized to the musical score. The fountains not only provide dramatic effect for the show, they also serve as enrichment for the whales during playtimes throughout the day. An original symphonic score featuring songs titled ‘One Song,’ ‘Side by Side’ and ‘We’re One’ intend to evoke a global stewardship message and are amplified through hundreds of surround-sound speakers.”

The new “One Ocean” show also encourages people to start caring about our shared ocean. “From the food we eat to the air we breathe, nearly all life on this planet depends on our ocean. That means conserving and caring for the sea and the animals living in it begins at home — even if home is miles away from the ocean,” states the SeaWorld website.

Get ready to welcome Team Coco, San Diego. Tickets are still available for Conan O’Brien’s “Legally Prohibited From Being Funny on Television Tour” stop at the San Diego Civic Theater this Thursday night. Ticket prices range from $37 to $77. O’Brien’s last show in Los Angeles featured Jim Carrey and the two performing Five for Fighting’s “It’s Not Easy to Be Me” in superhero costumes, so it is sure to be a spectacular production.

Conan O’Brien embarked on his 32 city tour after he gave up hosting duties for The Tonight Show earlier this year. As a result of his settlement with NBC, O’Brien agreed he would not perform on television, the internet or radio until September. Recently, O’Brien announced that he would return to television in November with a new late night show on cable channel TBS, which will be followed by George Lopez’s show Lopez Tonight.

Long time fans of O’Brien’s Late Night show will be delighted to find that he has not forgotten that unique brand of comedy that endears him to many. Reviews of previous shows are favorable and mostly describe O’ Brien’s performances as variety shows featuring musical performances, skits, and favorite characters like Triumph the insult comic dog and of course, special guests. He had Pearl Jam perform at his Seattle show, and musician and actor, Chris Isaak joined him in San Francisco. It should be interesting to see who he has for his San Diego stop.

Videos of Conan O’Brien performing various popular tunes have surfaced all over the internet including this one of a rendition of the song “Creep” by Radiohead.

The New York times is reporting that an interview with O’Brien will air on CBS’s 60 Minutes on Sunday, May 2nd. This will be his first interview since leaving NBC. As part of the same deal that kept him from performing on television until September, O’Brien also agreed not to do interviews until after May 1st. According to the report, O’Brien will discuss his decision to leave NBC instead of pushing his show back to make room for Jay Leno and it will feature highlights from his current shows. However, O’Brien is still under restrictions not criticize his former network.

With a successful tour underway and more media promotions to come, buzz is sure to continue building for O’Brien’s return to late night television. If you have a chance, don’t miss out on catching O’Brien’s show in San Diego this Thursday, it could be a once in a lifetime event.

San Diego St. Patrick's Day celebrations are in full effect today. Whether you're looking for a crazy time or something more low key, America's Finest City has a St. Patrick's Day event for you.

Photo from renaissancechambara via Flickr

Since St. Patrick’s day falls in the middle of the week once again this year, some of the events in San Diego can be a little too high energy for a Wednesday night. Here are some extra options for you to enjoy the holiday without all the rowdiness.

Hoolyfest will be taking place at Hooleys Irish Pub at both of its locations (Rancho San Diego and La Mesa). Minors are welcome before 4:00 pm, so go enjoy authentic corned beef tacos. Those over 21 can enjoy live bands and tall pints. Tickets are on sale today for $15 and this includes a free shuttle ride home.

If you are looking to go downtown but aren’t interested in going to the outdoor extravaganza that is shamROCK St. Patrick’s day block party, then the House of Blues is the place for you.

91x is presenting Pennywise with Aggrolites and The Darlings. This alternative/punk show will range from $20-$35 (4 pack is $60) and begins at 8:00 PM.

Looking to enjoy a beautiful mix of Irish tunes? Then escape to the San Diego Symphony Orchestra and indulge in Celtic melodies and traditional dance. This Celtic Celebration will be featuring the Brian Baynes Band, Irish singer Siobhán O’Brien and the Malone Academy of Irish Dance.

Take pleasure in an Irish meal at the Kona Kai Resort. They will be serving tossed green salad, corned beef and cabbage with steamed potatoes, and key lime cheesecake between 5:00-9:00 PM at $19.95 a person. This event will provide you with great views on Shelter Island along with traditional Irish foods. For reservations call (619) 221-8000.

Another great place to enjoy some Irish favorites is Kelly’s Steakhouse located at the Town and Country Resort, 500 Hotel Circle North. They will have sing-a-longs at their piano bar with Joe Cromwell from 4 Pm to midnight. They will be serving corned beef & cabbage, ”green beer” on tap, Irish coffee, and Irish whiskey at a reasonable price.

All these options let you indulge in the traditional celebrations of St. Patrick’s Day without giving you a green beer hangover for work the next day.

Dive down the rabbit hole this Saturday for your own foray into wonderland. Whether you’re an avid fan of the latest blockbuster or the books, local artists are bringing new perspectives of the fantasy land that have lately bombarded the billboards.

Voices in Wonderland, an art show turned adult tea party of sorts, will take place March 13th at the Blonde Martini in downtown San Diego. It will feature works by 20 local artists, all inspired by Tim Burton’s latest interpretation of Alice. The works of art that will be featured are a fusion of the worlds described by Lewis Carroll and Tim Burton, interpreted by artists in the form of mixed media, paintings, and film.

The works featured are by San Diego artists Todd Sanders, Tracy Johnson, Matt Lorentz, and True Delorenzo. Also included in the program is the work of Mark Richmond, whose works have been hung in the San Diego International Airport and Harney Sushi in Oceanside, and Los Angeles film artist Gato Blanko.

“Voices,” the last of a series of monthly local art-inspired events, was established in 2009 in an effort to involve the local culture into the Gaslamp. Traditionally held every second Saturday at Onyx, this underground art event has decided to abandon the Saturday night dance crowd in favor of the recently opened Blonde Martini.

Planner Jon Block hopes that the new location will revive success in the “Voices” series, explaining Blonde Martini’s appeal as “a blank slate, (and) that’s the most attractive thing about it. They’ve got that extremely mysterious underground flair which suits our Alice theme so well.”

The $15 cover will include entertainment by circus performers, pop-rock band Stealing Love Jones, beats from DJ Dennis J, an open vodka bar, and hors d’oeuvres until 9pm.

Mark your calendars. On February 20, 2010 from 5-9pm Philanthro Productions will be throwing their next event—Elevate — at Side Bar in downtown San Diego. The event is your chance to eat, drink and mingle while supporting a good cause at one of downtown’s hottest bars.

It’s only $12 if you’re on the guestlist and $15 at the door. The price of admission includes complimentary appetizers and desserts, including pizza by Ciro’s Pizzeria and cupcakes by Cups La Jolla and Cupcakes Squared. Not only will there be free food, but you’ll be eligible for happy hour specials at Side Bar and you’ll be able to stay for free for the rest of the night.

For one night only, Sidebar will feature a specialty cocktail called “Friendz with Benefitz.” The drink was crafted specifically for the night and a portion of proceeds go directly to charity.

Elevate begins at 5pm and lasts until 9pm. Attendees of the event are then free to stay at Sidebar as it turns into a poppin’ Saturday night party—without having to pay additional cover charge. So bring your friends to mix, mingle and eat, and then party after!

All net proceeds will go to Y-FRIENDz Mentoring Children of Prisoners Program, a program of YMCA Youth and Family Services. The Y-FRIENDz program, which began in 2004, has successfully paired children of incarcerated parents with mentors who provide guidance, encouragement and a listening ear. These mentors provide meaningful support for these children and help guide them into becoming healthy, happy, and productive adults.

Elevate will be a great opportunity to network and mingle with like-minded individuals. And of course, like all of Philanthro Productions’ events (Replay: Back to the 80s and Urban Oasis), it will be a lot of fun. In addition to the free food and cheap drinks, there will be a raffle, silent auction, and a belly dancing performance.

Philanthro Productions is a non-profit organization whose mission is to get more young adults involved in charity. They eliminate the trade-off between going out with friends and giving back by creating unique opportunities for charitable giving. This all-volunteer organization hosts first-rate social events in partnership with leading non-profits, while staying committed to transparency and efficiency in fundraising. Since its founding in 2007, Philanthro Productions has launched chapters in San Diego, Los Angeles and San Francisco, which together have raised nearly $170,000 for partner charities.

Come join the fun at Elevate. Not only will you be supporting a charitable cause, you’ll get the chance to network, make friends, eat, drink, and party. Party for a better future with Philanthro Productions on February 20th. What more could you want on a Saturday night?

Calling out to all guidos and guidettes in San Diego!

Photo from Blude via Flickr.

If you’ve been watching MTV at all in the past couple months, then I’m sure you’ve at least caught a glimpse of the muscle action from the new hit series Jersey Shore. From their daily GTL schedule (gym, tan, laundry), to their nightly fist-pumping at Karma, the show takes you into the lives of these eight self-proclaimed fabulous individuals who absolutely love to get dolled up and party.

Ronnie will be coming to our very own On Broadway in the Gaslamp today, and you won’t want to miss this fist-pumping experience first-handed. The first 200 guests will receive complimentary admission, and discounted admission will be offered until 11pm. Are Ronnie and Sammi Sweetheart still broken up like we saw on the Jersey Shore reunion episode, or will he be showing up to On Broadway with his pretty lady on arm? Be at On Broadway tonight to find out.

The show is full of drama drama drama– from steamy hot tub sessions to swapping spit with sloppy-seconds at Atlantic City. While in AC, we saw that JWowww’s got a mean backhand that I bet Mike The Situation wouldn’t want to experience again any time soon. No matter what happens during the day, nights at the Jersey Shore are far from ordinary.

Whether you love it or hate it, I bet you won’t be able to flip the channel once you’ve watched a few seconds of the show. Consider it a guilty pleasure and indulge in the craziness for a bit. It’s hard to resist having a soft spot for Snooki, who is looking for love wherever she goes, and loving Vinny, the devout mama’s boy who still enjoys having his meals cut for him.

Ronnie, guido sweetheart of the house, had one rule upon going to the Jersey Shore: never fall in love. However, Sammi Sweetheart broke into the tough guy’s hard shell and threw his primary rule out the window. The amazingly-tanned couple had their fair share of ups and down, but they maintained a relatively loyal relationship throughout the show, even with The Situation enviously instigating trouble whenever he could. Ronnie’s got some interesting dance moves that gets the girls gravitating towards him on the dance floor– check out the video below and see for yourself.

Mardi Gras is approaching, and on February 16, 2010, the Gaslamp Quarter will host a variety of events aimed at celebrating the historic tradition that embraces indulgences of all kinds. While this might not be New Orleans, San Diego sure holds its own when it comes to food, drinks, and beads.

Kicking off the celebrations will be two spectacular Masquerade Parades that will run up 5th Avenue. The parades will feature colorful floats, cars, and beads and will run at both 7:30pm and 10 pm, rain or shine. And the parades are only the start. There will be seven stages throughout the Quarter with entertainment lounges and a series of ten DJ’s and live bands.

The entertainment lineup for the night will include shows from street performers, dancers, magic and cirque, and of course crazy carnival games. There will also be restaurants, clubs, and bars decorated for the occasion, serving drinks, and inviting you to party at their location.

And while “winging it” will surely prove fun, walking around the Quarter will cost $20 at the door. Be prepared; take advantage of all the remarkably affordable pre-sale packages that offer food, drinks, and VIP access for a flat fee. A visit to Gaslamp.org will give you access to packages that take the all the guesswork out of your Fat Tuesday festivities. If you buy your tickets pre-sale, $15 will give you access to the celebrations where you can enjoy the floats, stages, music, and beads. If you’re looking to indulge a little more a $38 VIP ticket will not only give you access to the celebration but also give you no cover VIP access to 13 clubs (923, Belo, Sin Nightclub, and Red Circle, to name a few), six “welcome shots,” VIP access for your next club visit, and food and drink specials valued at $500.

If you’re looking to celebrate Mardi Gras with a special someone or close friends, there are also affordable dinner packages for $30 that not only get you access to the festivities ($20 value at the event) but also a $20 voucher for a restaurant of your choice. Restaurants include: Blue Pointe Costal Cuisine, Dicks Last Resort, Greystone Steakhouse, Cucina Costana, and Mister Tiki Mai Tai Lounge among many others. If you decide to buy the dinner package be sure to buy pre-sale on the website and call the restaurant to make reservations for the day, February 16, starting at 6pm.

Be prepared and save some money by pre-ordering tickets to whatever package best complements your plans for the night.

Don’t know what you’re doing this Saturday night? If want to get your groove on at a flashy dance party while contributing to a good cause, then come on down to “Replay, Back to the Eighties” at Onyx, 852 5th Avenue in downtown San Diego, hosted by Philanthro Productions.

The party starts at 9pm and doesn’t stop til 2am. Tickets are $15 online or $20 at the door. Philanthro Productions will donate all net proceeds to Outdoor Outreach, a nonprofit organization that helps the underprivileged youth.

The Onyx Room is one of many trendy spots in the downtown San Diego scene. For one special night, Onyx will be transformed into the ultimate 80s flashback, complete with 80s cover band RadioStar bringing your favorite hits back to life, along with DJ Kray-Z-K and Electronic Prophet spinning the hottest dance music all night long.

There will also be delicious happy hour priced 80s-inspired cocktails to wet your appetite and get you ready for a long night of partying for a cause. Be sure to add your name to the guest list and get there early for a hosted bar with acai spirits complimentary of Veev. The drinks will begin to pour at 9pm and continue only as long as the supply lasts.

In addition to the hosted bar, discounted drink specials, and live music, guests will receive complimentary gifts from sponsors such as Inkhead.com and Vickie Lavanty Salon. There will also be a silent auction and raffle tickets available for a chance to win some awesome prizes.

“Replay, Back to the Eighties” is the latest event to be hosted by the San Diego Chapter of Philanthro Productions to raise money for a good cause. This group is not just a production company or a nonprofit; it is unique. Their mission is to get more young adults involved in charity by eliminating the trade off between having fun and giving back. They host first-rate parties in partnership with leading nonprofits, and strive to bring together San Diego’s young adults with well-established charities who are looking for the next generation of philanthropic leaders.

Philanthro Productions advocates having fun and going out with friends while donating your time and money to good causes—you don’t have to give up one to do the other! They aim to increase awareness as well as raise money for charities around the world, and to of course make philanthropy fun.

In September, Philanthro Productions in San Diego hosted “Urban Oasis” at the W Hotel. 100% of funds, which added up to over $5,000, were donated to Planet Cancer, a nonprofit support network for young adults diagnosed with Cancer. Philanthro Productions also operates chapters in Los Angeles and San Francisco. The three chapters combined have raised nearly $160,000 for partner charities.

The benefits of “Replay, Back to the Eighties” will go to Outdoor Outreach, a nonprofit organization that utilizes comprehensive outdoor programs and activities to empower at-risk and underprivileged youth to make positive, lasting changes in their lives. They support the underserved youth in San Diego County who are at risk for school dropout, substance abuse, violence and unintended pregnancy.

Outdoor Outreach is one of just a few agencies in the country, and the only in San Diego, that utilizes outdoor physical experiences to provide youth with the support, relationships, resources and opportunities they need to become successful adults. Since it’s founding in 2001, Outdoor Outreach has taken 3,500 youth on over 1,000 outings, including rock climbing, snowboarding, surfing, snorkeling, mountain biking and backpacking.

So come support Outdoor Outreach by joining Philanthro Productions in this night of dancing, entertainment, philanthropy and fun—80s style. Who doesn’t love rocking out to 80s music under a blacklight? You can even dress the part if you feel so inspired; or come showing some skin and have on site body painters finish your look.

Break out your leg warmers, parachute pants, fanny packs and spandex and we’ll see you there! Click here to get on the guest list and be sure to invite your friends to this dy-no-mite event. If you cannot make it to the event, you can still help with a totally rad donation.

To the Monday through Friday nine-to-fivers, the men and women who wake up at the crack of dawn and fall asleep half-past 10, those who treat themselves to happy hour cocktails and Saturdays at the park – you probably have no idea what Industry night is.

Well don’t feel bad – you’re not suppose to.

Every Wednesday night, San Diego’s bartenders, restaurant staff and servers are given one night to luxuriate in the service most folks take advantage of every weekend. The aprons are untied, the hair is let down and the very people who get the party started professionally combine forces for an absolutely superb soiree. Drink prices are lowered, hot DJ’s are invited and the real party of week is ignited.

Word of Industry night has spread and some of San Diego’s most acclaimed clubs and bars want in, but more importantly – it’s you they want inside.

All New Industry Night @ Voyeur

Our favorite vampirish lair – dark, scintillating with its incredibly nebulous décor – Voyeur is opening its crypts and launching the all New Industry Night designed specifically for Wednesdays. Ripe with haunting house music, intoxicating potions and alluring go-go’s, San Diego’s hospitality super-clique is sure to satisfy any hump-day hankering.

Wednesday Industry Night @ Thruster’s Lounge
The T-Lounge in Mission Beach may be the only spot the coast where the flip-flops are taken off and the bikinis and boardshorts left to dry. Amidst the relaxed yet posh ambiance of newly launched Wednesday Industry Night, industry crowds intertwine with weekday socialites while TK Productions presents featured local DJs and exclusive bar benefits. Ahh…can you hear it? The beach beckons.

Side Bar Wednesdays

The eerie romanticism of the revamped Side Bar is the décor of dreams. Empty birdcages hang galore while tons of seductively haunting portraits line the wall. Different, unique and creatively customized, Side Bar has it all – except one very small but important detail – the cover. On a good night, patrons will pay $20 minimum not to mention an average of $10 per drink. But Wednesday nights being Industry night, Side Bar becomes coverless, drinks are put on an especially low special and numerous DJs will be rotating all night. A word of advice – get on the guest list. Space is limited.

So get off the couch already, turn off the prime-time and go out! Yes, yes – you have work in the morning but it’s only once a week you can piggyback on the Industry’s zest for excess.

Even though we are spoiled with some of the most amazing weather all year long in San Diego, the temperature can still drop low enough to cross the beach off of the fun list. For the two months or so when the beach is not an option, take the time to enjoy other parts of San Diego. The colder weather can provide great opportunities for winter-like moments.

Coffee shops and hookah bars

Stay warm in colder weather ( Photo by scholastica ees super busy via Flickr)

Snuggling up in a warm and cozy atmosphere with dimly lit surroundings creates great moments for couples. What’s perfect about this is that the weather is cold enough to be bundled up, but not cold enough to stay indoors. Many coffee shops and hookah bars offer outdoor seating, and the surrounding shops decorated for the holidays can make for a relaxing evening. I would suggest trying out more local coffee shop like Vinaka Cafe in Carlsbad, Pannikin in Leucadia or Village Coffee near Qualcomm Stadium. The locally owned shops all have their unique creative vibe, giving a different and cool ambiance to the scene.

Hookah bars also provide the same scenery since most of them are locally owned (I haven’t seen a hookah bar chain on every corner like Starbucks). I definitely wouldn’t recommend it to someone with asthma problems, but even non-smokers can enjoy the surroundings. Since the tobacco used in hookahs is fused with fruit and other natural extracts, it doesn’t smell like a smoker’s paradise. Places like Fumari downtown can be filled with scents of peach, apple, and lemon drops. Hookah bars can be expensive if it’s only one or two people; a group of three or four is a nice size to share one hookah. Plus everyone pitching in on the purchase can make it affordable for everyone.

Take a break from the beach and spend time on the ice. (Photo by sfllaw via Flckr)

Ice skating

Who says you need snow or below freezing weather to go ice skating? San Diego brings the ice to the beach-side city with indoor ice skating. This can make for a great date or family fun; almost, if not all places provide rentals with the purchase of a day pass. The UTC shopping mall located in La Jolla places the ice skating ring in the middle of the mall! UTC is a great place to spend the day because there’s not only ice skating, but plenty of choices for lunchtime grub and a chance to do some shopping if the need strikes.

There are other ice skating rinks located in San Diego like the Iceoplex in Escondido and the San Diego Ice Arena off the 15 freeway near Mira Mesa Blvd. For the grand daddy of them all, the place to go to have great ice skating experience during the holiday season is Sycuan’s Fantasy on Ice at Horton Plaza downtown. Yes people, they are constructing an ice skating rink downtown. It may not be Rockefeller Center, but the fun is just as awesome and flip flops are still an option afterward.

Drive in movie

Make it a classic date night (Photo by greaterfalls via Flickr)

The classic date night under the starry open sky, next to your honey, in front of the big white movie screen is still alive in San Diego. The South Bay Drive-In located on Coronado Ave in Imperial Beach offers all the latest movies with the classic outdoor drive-in vibe.

The best part is that they offer two movies for the price of one. Admission is only $7 per person and movie-goers can see great movie combinations like “The Fourth Kind” and “Cirque du Freak: The Vampire’s Assistant” or “The Box” and “Where the Wild Things Are.”

No other movie theater offers a better deal. Plus, everyone is allowed to bring in outside drinks and food. They even allow lawn chairs and coolers! Get together 50’s style and snuggle up at the drive-in. Foggy windows are optional.

Even though San Diego is known for its sunny days and endless beaches, there are plenty of other ways to enjoy our beautiful city. Even when the bathing suit is waiting for next summer.

Check out the Vampires Ball at SPIN from 2 a.m. -12 p.m. featuring DJs Pornscore and Stillwell.

Then on the grand night of Halloween itself, Hard Rock Hotel, W Hotel, and the Prado at Balboa Park will be hosts to a few of San Diego’s biggest and most anticipated parties this year.

For the party animals who simply cannot satiate their Halloween cravings with a normal hours party, fear not, several after parties will allow Halloween to rage on into the wee hours of the morning. Aside from the aforementioned after hours event at W Hotel, a Halloween After Hours Ball hosted by FM Presents and Walden Keyes will be taking place at 1676 Main Street from 12-7 a.m featuring DJs Beej and Myron. Proceeds will benefit the Cancer Research Association of Southern California. For more information and tickets, send e-mails to thahouzzzproductions@gmail.com. In addition, 4th & B will play host to another event this weekend called Overtime, an after hours party taking place from 4 a.m.- 2 p.m. featuring a surprise guest DJ.

As if a weekend long celebration weren’t enough, the Halloween fun will continue into Sunday when the House of Blues will wrap up the weekend’s festivities by hosting Deadmau5, one of the biggest trance and electro house award-winning DJs in the world, most known for compilation album tracks “Aguru,” “Not Exactly” and “Faxing Berlin.” The all-ages show starts at 9 p.m. and rages on until 2 a.m. Ticket prices range from $17.50-$32.50. Purchase pre-sale tickets here.

Whatever your choice of entertainment for the fun-filled weekend, all we ask is that you play safely, kindly, and responsibly. Oh and that you have tons of fun!!! It’s bound to be a scream.

So what are you going to be this Halloween – a sexy vampire, a slutty nurse, a leave-speckled Eve, a single guy with drool dripping from his chin? As a woman, I both look forward and detest October 31st.

Having to starve myself to fit into the adorable Playboy Pirate number is excruciating, but the immense joy I get from being such a hot commodity – half-naked, boobs lifted and decorated with about an inch of makeup – is well worth the struggle.

Although Halloween is fun, I can never help but think, “Is walking the streets of Pacific Beach and downtown in only my underwear and stilettos… trashy?” I quickly push away the thought by consoling myself that there’s about a million women doing the exact same thing.

Little did I know my slight insecurity was dead on. Bar hopping, house parties and club events are fun, but there is a classier option out there: the Prado’s annual Halloween Ball. Need I say more?

Hosted by DJHere Productions, the exquisite, historical architecture of Balboa Park’s Prado is transformed into a haunted, ghostly and mystifying manor with an ambiance somewhere in between Las Vegas and a séance.

DJHere’s site rages that Halloween at the Prado is distinct due to its “thirty-foot hand stenciled ceilings, hardwood floors, skylights, a full theatrical stage, outdoor garden and breathtaking Spanish Architecture.”

And unlike other events, the night won’t get stale. Throughout my resume of Halloween escapades, it felt that by hour two the magic of the night was gone and I was just an attention-seeking whore after all.

It doesn’t appear I have that miserable realization to look forward to this year. Halloween Ball is jam-packed with entertainment, including six DJ’s, two especially-themed rooms and a three-category costume contest with a plump $500 prize. Whether I’ll win most creative, best group or best overall has yet to be determined. I’m still undecided if I should do the Lady Gaga MTV Video Awards costume made complete with blood smeared all over my body – or a sexy girl scout. Hmmm… decisions, decisions.

DJHere is ensuring everyone has a good time, outfitting the Ball with twenty bars, loads of free parking spots and indoor/outdoor access so you can walk underneath the stars with that cute Dracula guy.

If you want classy, you’ll get it at the Halloween Ball, but not without paying the price. The slightly steep fee of $55 a ticket may make you do a double take, but living the high life doesn’t come cheap. Not to mention, you’ll get to start every November conversation with “So I went to this ball at Balboa Park…”

Just get the tickets before it’s too late. Halloween Ball is notorious for selling out weeks before the event.

The ball starts at 9 p.m. Don’t be late!

The Chargers see the support San Diego has for them, such as lifting blackouts and cheering them on during their up and down season. That’s why they show no hesitation when it comes to giving support back to their community. On October 17 from 6-10 p.m., the Chargers will join with Palomar Pomerado Health to present, “In the Huddle,” a night of football anecdotes and ad-libs to support the Huntington’s Disease Society of America. It’s a night when Charger fans can join in on the huddle.

Fans can spend the evening hanging out with Head Coach Norv Turner and some of the players, like linebacker Shawne Merriman and quarterback Philip Rivers. At the event one can listen to stories, watch videos and interact with the players. ESPN’s voices for the NFL such as, Mike Tirico, Ron Jaworski, Jon Gruden, Michele Tafoya and Suzy Kolber are also joining in on the fun. In addition, football coaching legend Don Coryell will be participating in the night as the Guest of Honor. Fans will not only get to participate in unforgettable discussions, talk with our local players, and meet a coaching legend, but they will also help celebrate coach Coryell’s 85th birthday.

legendary coach Coryell is honored (Photo via wikicommons)

Coryell became a legendary football coach for the Chargers during the late 1970’s and early 1980’s because of the modernized passing attacks he devised, creating the term, “Air Coryell.” He lead the team to an average of 28 points per game during a span of 57 games from 1979 through 1982. He also led local universities like San Diego State University to victories. Coryell coached 12 seasons with the Aztecs, by using the philosophy of recruiting only junior college players. He compiled a record of 104 wins, 19 losses, and 2 ties including three undefeated seasons in 1966, 1968 and 1969. It would not only be an honor to celebrate with the legend for his 85th birthday, but also to commemorate his time and service to San Diego.

The Huntington’s Disease Society of America, offers hope and support to affected individuals and their families. They also help to raise public awareness and funds to research a cure. Each local chapter such as San Diego, provide a network of care to those living with the disease, including support groups, caregivers and education.

Huntington’s disease is a genetically caused brain disorder that systematically robs people of their ability to walk, talk, eat, and think. Unfortunately people with Huntington’s Disease eventually become totally dependent upon others because currently there is no effective treatment or cure. It affects both sexes and all ethnic groups, typically occurring between the ages of 30 and 50, although there can be an onset as early as the age of two. Children of a parent with Huntington’s Disease have a 50-50 chance of inheriting the condition since it does not skip generations.

Tickets for the event begin at $300 and includes an evening with NFL players and icons, but also an array of food and specialty drinks. Supporters can remember their evening and continue their support by bidding in the silent and live auctions. The sports night will take place at the at the Manchester Grand Hyatt hotel, located at One Market Place in San Diego.

Some of Seaworld's "Spooktacular" creatures (Photo by ChekIt! via Flickr)

Seaworld and Legoland have decked their parks with ghoulish characters, fall themed foods, and festive shows to send shivers down your spine from early October all the way up until November 1st.

Legoland’s “Brick or Treat” Party nights will be held on October 10th, 17th, 24th, and of course 31st. During these days, tickets will be discounted, offering a night visit from 5-9 p.m. for just $25, and an all day pass for $55. Just in case you did not get your lego adventure fix in your one visit, when you buy the specially discounted ticket, you get a free pass to come back anytime between Nov. 1st and Dec. 25th.

Theme parks not exactly what you had in mind to get the party started? 4th and B will be hosting a “Heaven and Hell” themed pre-Halloween party on Oct. 30th, where, you guess it, devils and angels will crowd the dance floor. The party starts at 9 p.m. and tickets are $20.

Halloween night will be a busy one for San Diegans as they try and decide where they will spend the haunted evening. If you’re looking for something big and 21 and up, head out to the Halloween Ball 2009 at the Prado at The House of Hospitality in Balboa Park. Thirty bucks will score you free parking, access to 20 bars, a night full of renowned DJ’s spinning your fave records, and the night would not be complete without a costume contest that pays out $500 to the winner.

Another 21 and up late night event will be the Dos Equis XX Monster Bash. Located in the Gaslamp on 7th and Island, the party will host live music, booze, and a costume contest that pays out $3,000. Tickets are $25 in advance or $30 at the door.

If you are not really into the huge event scene the Casbah will be hosting a concert on Halloween. Headliners include The Night Marchers and The Creep Creeps. If your low on cash, this is a perfect night of music and company for just $15 at the door.

For a fun family night for all ages, take your young ones to Trick or Treat on India Street from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. where local businesses will be handing out sweet treats. Or you can take the family on a spooky tour of the Star of India, beware of pirates in this creaky dark haunted boat. Tours go from 5 p.m. to 8p.m.

We all love to celebrate such a holiday during the evening hours, but San Diego actually offers some great daytime events that are great for family, friends, or even a date. Balboa Park has exciting activities all day long, including a costume parade and merchant stands. Kids can get into many of the museums free with the purchase of an adult ticket.

Another great a.m. pit-stop is The Boulevard Boo! Parade and Carnival. The street parade begins at El Cajon Blvd. and ends at Rolando Blvd., with the carnival going noon to 6 p.m. with special performances by local bands and dance groups, food, and even a doggie costume contest.

With this grab-bag of up and coming Halloween attractions, there should be no reason for a dull October 31st this year. All you need now is an awesome costume that will scare the pants off all your friends and you are good to go!

Don’t wait until October rolls around for Halloween fun. Ghosts and goblins are creeping into town this Friday, September 25 with the opening of the Haunted Hotel downtown, the Haunted Trails at Balboa Park, and the Scream Zone at the Del Mar Race Track. San Diego knows how to do Halloween right, and it’s only perfect that the festivities begin early; the more time for scaring, the better.

Being a past patron of the Haunted Hotel, I can only say this is one of the best Halloween experiences in town. This isn’t any ordinary neighborhood scare fest, so forget about cardboard cutouts and “spooky sounds” on tape. These guys know the true meaning of fright.

After stepping into the Haunted Hotel, you’ll be happy you came with friends. They can be sacrificed first. This scene is not only heart wrenching, but your whole body is on high alert the entire time. The further you walk, the faster you hope to reach the exit. In the back of your head you may know everything is fake, but in that moment the actors and setting provide the perfect combination of scare tactics.

This is definitely not for the faint-hearted; small children or potential heart attack sufferers need not enter. The Haunted Hotel is located at 424 Market St. in the Gaslamp Quarter in San Diego.

Halloween begins early (Photo by Beth Rankin via Flickr)

People who experience the Haunted Trails at Balboa Park always come back having to tell someone, “You have to go.”

Have you ever walked across any empty parking lot late at night, or ended up passing through a park or field in the dark with little to no lighting? If you haven’t or want to experience the same “I’m going to pee my pants if something jumps out at me” feeling, then the Haunted Trails is a must.

It holds the same intense adrenaline pumping scare factor as the Haunted Hotel, but since it’s outside, at night, in the open, it brings an uncomfortable lurking monster in the darkness feeling to it. Have a soundtrack to “Jeepers Creepers” playing in the car on your way home and you won’t be able to sleep all night. The Haunted Trails begins at Juniper Rd. and Balboa Dr. in Balboa Park.

More Halloween activities after the jump.

The Scream Zone at the Del Mar Race Track is a three-in-one horror spectacular. This year offers new blood-curdling scenes in the House of Horror, the Haunted Hayride, and The Chamber.

The House of Horror moves their victims through a variety of themed rooms filled with spine tingling sights, heart-stopping sounds and never ending scares lurking around every turn and corridor. After escaping, fright-finding adventurers can jump into the Haunted Hayride where riders subconsciously huddle together on a tractor-pulled hay wagon while being stalked by ghosts, zombies, and other skin tingling creatures while riding through the haunted barn area on the backside of the Del Mar Race Track.

If the Scream Zone wasn’t enough for Halloween junkies, they can end their trip through The Chamber which features the largest “spinning tunnel” in San Diego, and a ghost from south of the border who is looking for her lost children called La Llorona. With endless twist and turns, dead ends are impossible to avoid in this labyrinth. The Del Mar Race Track is located at 2260 Jimmy Durante Boulevard along the coast in Del Mar.

Join in on the world record (Photo by Esparta via Flickr)

All of these events begin on September 25 and continue scaring until Halloween, except for the Haunted Hayride at the Scream Zone, which begins October 3.

On September 26, the Scream Zone will attempt to set a world record with the largest gathering of Jason Voorhees characters ever assembled. To become a part of the world record, Jason Fans can register at the Scream Zone beginning at 5:30 p.m on Saturday. The first 500 people to register will receive a free Jason mask and machete to take home with them, and will be included in the official photo that will be submitted to Guinness World Records.

Ticket prices range from $14.99 to $27.99 depending on each event and add-ons available such as line jumping or combo packages. To get more information, dates, times, or buy tickets to the scariest events in San Diego, lurk to www.hauntedhotel.com.

Ever since the release of movies such as the Fast and the Furious and Redline, almost every car lover with a GTO or suped up Honda wants to show they have balls. However exciting or adrenaline inducing this kind of sport may be, it is also very dangerous. Fortunately for San Diego a LEGAL form of street racing is available.

RaceLegal.com has been offering an alternative to illegal street racing since 1998. Dr. Stephen J. Bender, Professor at San Diego State University’s Graduate School of Public Health created the program in order to change the horrible statistics about street racing.

In 2002, the total deaths and injuries totaled 48 per year in San Diego alone. From the success of the program, this number dramatically decreased by 68% in 2007 to 15 total per year. The race legal program offers the same driving excitement of illegal street racing but in a safe controlled environment.

The set up is this: The track is 1/8 of a mile long located at Qualcomm Stadium and any make and model of car, including motorcycles, can race. There are requirements of course. Every vehicle is divided into six different categories and different speed limits are set for each, ranging from 6.0 to 10.0.

All drivers must have a valid driver’s license and current registration. Even minors can particpate in the street races, with a signed parents consent form. A vehicle check list and detailed technical requirements are listed on their website.

Even though there are regulations, RaceLegal keeps the fun open to anyone with special tricked out rides and different racing styles. Drivers can race heads up or in shoot-out competition. They allow open t-tops, cars uncorked (below 93 decibels), slicks, NOS (with some standard regulations), cars with trunk battery mounts, trailered-in vehicles, and car clubs or individual racers.

Read more about how to get in on the action.

Drivers can start their engines beginning at 6:30 p.m. up until 12:00 a.m. The fee is $30 per racer and $8 for spectators. Trophies are awarded at 11:00 p.m. but drivers must be present to win. Events are held once or twice a month with the next race day on September 25. Since this an all night event, RaceLegal even allows spectators and participants to tailgate making the night even more enjoyable.

According to the California Office of Traffic Safety, illegal street racing causes over 1000 traffic accidents a year. These accidents can not only involve death but can come with up to six months in jail or a $1000 fine. Worse, if illegal street racing kills someone, whether a rider in the car or a bystander, the driver can be convicted of manslaughter.

Step up, take responsibility, enjoy your ride, and show your skills September 25 at Qualcomm stadium located at 9449 Friars Rd in San Diego.

Go beer tasting this Friday and support a good cause (Picture via www.sdbeerfest.org)

No, there are no lederhosen required and you don’t have to overload on sausage. Well, you can if you want to. The 15th annual San Diego Festival of Beer will take place Friday September 18 from 6 p.m. until 11 p.m. in downtown San Diego at Columbia and B Street. The goal is to round up 6,000 beer lovers to enjoy the sounds of live music while sampling from 75 different breweries.

The 21- and- over event is hosted by the San Diego Professionals Against Cancer (SDPAC), a group of dedicated professionals who created an non-profit organization and developed the festival in order to raise money and donate funds to local San Diego cancer related charities, patient treatment, and research organizations. Recent donations have been to Rady Children’s Hospital and the Sidney Kimmel Cancer Center.

With the price of admission, beer-loving participants can enjoy ten (4oz.) beer tastings. The festival not only offers a variety of beer, but also has an array of food choices and snacks for sale in addition to a selection of fine wines for purchase by the glass. The first 6,000 people into the event will receive a free souvenir event logo tasting mug that is theirs to use throughout the evening and to keep when they go home.

Advance tickets are on sale on for $25, but tickets can also be purchased at the gate for $30. Tickets ordered online can be mailed or picked up at will call the day of the festivities. They also offer designated driver tickets for $20. The sampling isn’t available with these tickets, but these team players still get to go home with a souvenir mug and can still enjoy all the delicious treats to be offered.

If ten tastings isn’t enough, additional tastings can be purchased at the rate of $5 for five or $10 for ten. For wine lovers, discounted tickets of $20 can be purchased, but wine purchases are still separate.

Discounted parking is also available at a rate of $5 one block away at Columbia and C Street, in the Columbia Garage, an enclosed, well-lit garage with a maximum height of 7′.

In order to keep the peace on the streets, for the first time this year the festival is partnering with the W Hotel downtown and offering one night room stays and discounted ticket packages. If a DD isn’t available and driving won’t be option, enjoy the evening and rest that beer satisfied smile at the W Hotel. A one night’s stay at W plus one ticket to the Festival of Beer is just $229 or $269 for a double room rate and two Beer Fest tickets. The price of the package for a room and ticket beats the price of a DUI or jail anytime.

Enjoy the San Diego style beerfest and help to raise money for cancer research and awareness. All proceeds go to a good cause, and a possible hangover the next day will be worth it.
