There have been a lot of good movies out lately over the past few weeks. We’ve had Dr. Suess’  “The Lorax” for the kids and “Project X” for all those crazy house party fans. Last Friday, a few more movies were released. The new releases will give you the choices of watching a horror/thriller, comedy, or science-fiction/adventure. Here is the list of the following three films that came out last weekend.

“A Thousand Words” (PG-13,) will make people more careful when dealing with gurus. The story centers around Hollywood agent Jack McCall (Eddie Murphy,) whose fast-talking ways and insincere attitude towards others sets those around him on edge.  McCall’s personality and constant high-speed chatter is threatening his marriage with Caroline (Kerry Washington) and constantly irritates Aaron (Clark Duke,) his assistant. It also leads him on the path towards trouble when he messes with the wrong guru, Dr. Sinja (Cliff  Curtis.) According to Fandango, “After stretching the truth on a deal with a spiritual guru, literary agent Jack McCall finds a Bodhi tree on his property.” As it turns out this tree represents his life span as a form of karmatic justice for his past actions. Unfortunately this tree has only a thousand leaves and every time he utters a word a leaf falls. If all the leaves fall he will perish. Now Jack is forced into silence and has to come up with crazy and creative ways to communicate.

For those who are big science-fiction fans, Disney’s “John Carter” (PG-13) movie is complete with adventure, alien warfare, and different dimensions. The film is available in three formats: original, 3D, and IMAX 3D. “John Carter,” based on a novel by Edgar Rice Burroughs, is set on the strange and foreign planet Barsoom (Mars.) According to Fandango, “The film tells the story of war-weary, former military captain John Carter (Taylor Kitsch,) who is inexplicably transported to Mars where he becomes reluctantly embroiled in a conflict of epic proportions amongst the inhabitants of the planet, including Tars Tarkas (Willem Dafoe) and the captivating Princess Dejah Thoris (Lynn Collins.)” From his dark and dreary home to the hot desert planet John’s eyes are opened as he witnesses on his quest of survival strange creatures, exotic women, and alien races. John is forced to accept his destiny as a leader and hero when he realizes that the inhabitants’ only hope of survival rests with him.

For those who are fans of horror films, “Silent House” (R) is waiting to thrill you. According to Fandango Movie Buzz writer, Christy Lemire, “In this Americanized version of the Uruguayan film “La Casa Muda,” Elizabeth Olsen stars as Sarah, a 20-something woman helping her father (Adam Trese) and uncle (Eric Sheffer Stevens) fix up the family’s longtime, dilapidated summer home in hopes of selling it.” However, upon visiting her family’s isolated Lake House Sarah finds herself trapped inside with no way out. Sarah becomes more terrified with the passing time when paranormal events start happening in the house and she is unable to contact anyone on the outside for help.
