Jeff & Jer’s morning “Showgram” off the air at Star 94.1

Jeff & Jer

After twenty-one years in San Diego, the Jeff & Jer program had its last “Showgram” yesterday on Star 94.1 FM.

The Clear Channel-owned station went into contract negotiations earlier this summer, but the two sides were never able to reach an agreement. Much of the discord surrounded the demand that the “family” (Laura, Tommy, Randy, Delana, Emily) stay together — something Clear Channel was reportedly unwilling to honor.

Coincidentally (or not), the folks over at 100.7 Jack FM have said they will have a “Major Announcement” to come on August 31. Some involved with radio in the market, including those at sdradio.net, have speculated that the Jef & Jer Showgram could be moving over to Jack at that time, yet nothing has been confirmed as of today.

That same day, the new morning show at Star 94.1 — “A.J. in the Morning” — is scheduled to commence. AJ Machado is currently heading the AJ’s Playhouse morning show over at Channel 93.3, but will move the show over to 94.1 at the end of the month.

In a statement from Clear Channel to sdradio.net, they indicated they are ready to move forward sans discussion about the particulars of Jeff & Jer’s departure:

“We are excited about the future of Star 94.1 with AJ Machado in the morning slot. Despite extensive contract negotiations, the Jeff and Jer Morning Show has concluded its tenure at Star 94.1. After four years at Star, today was their final show on the station. We are proud of their contributions to Star and grateful for their commitment to the success of the station.

Jeff & Jer indicted via a statement on their website that they will indeed be back on the air soon, helping to fuel the Jack FM speculation:

“We sure miss you [listeners]! We’ll be back on the air soon! We’ll tell you when and where in a couple of days.

San Diego is our home. Jeff and I and Tommy have been here for 21 years along with Laura and Randy and Delana and Emily and you guys — and we’re all family! We’ll post information here everyday. You can e-mail us at littletommy@jeffandjer.com. We’d love to hear from you. We also have brand new facebook and twitter pages.

We’ll be back on the air soon. As always, thanks so much for listening and being a part of our family.

So fear not fans of the Showgram. It sounds like Jeff & Jer will be back before we know it. Good luck to team on their transition, in additon to AJ Machado and his new gig at Star 94.1!

Thanks for the mention. Radio is an ever changing business that I have been writing for almost 15 years. The San Diego market remains exciting. While not unusual for air talent to be pulled after contract stalls, at least the showgram did their exit (again, noted) in style. Never bashed the owners, nor did they burn a bridge on the way out. Class act. Where ever they go (and there is more to the story), it’s good to experience that Jeff and Jer remain true to their word. See you on the radio; updates at http://SDRadio.net, In ((Stereo)) where available.

OMG! I couldn’t believe that Jef and Jer were missing. I listen to them everyday since 2000. Always wake up to them and listen to them to see what is going on with them. Since I didn’t hear their last showgram I was lost this week thinking WTH(eck!!!) At first I thought they were off for the first week of school to get their kids started. I’m so glad they will be back on the air and will follow them to their next gig! Delana I will miss you too but cannot wait until Jef and Jer are back on the air.

I have finally come to the conclusion that I need HELP. I am the fiancee of a prominent person but have finally given in to the powerless feeling that I have become an alcoholic, just like dozens of my family.

I am at my wits end! I don’t know how much I can take anymore. Keeping up appearances at work and socially. I can’t do this guys. My family name is well known in north county with the drug trade and I am shocked that I have fallen into this trap. I need help and how ironic that it is now that I am pleading for help from you. What do I do? I have repeated my parents alcoholism (thank God my son is grown) and am ashamed.

Well I’m not sure that posting here on a thread about Jef and Jer is the solution. I used to work in law enforcement and every time I hear “I fell into a trap” I’m aware that someone is squirming out of how responsible they are for their predicament. The statement “I made bad choices in life and need to change what I’m doing” is a better step towards what you need as a solution. The bottle is never a good choice, but it’s another choice that you’ve made. Being wise enough to survive is solely on the individual. Good luck.

J&J were stealing BIts anyways…No creativity or originality. The one thing they did have was a following back when they started @ B100 after the “Rich Brothers”. They are good people….It just seems like Clear channel was getting tired of bland and looking for a better change! they should look for another market….Yes another City!!
