Amy Grant visits San Diego July 27, 2013

Amy Grant has won six Grammy Awards, 25 Gospel Music Association Dove Awards, and had the first Christian album ever to go platinum.

“How Mercy Looks from Here,”  her first recording containing all new material in 10 years, will be released this week. Joining her are an all-star group of her friends: James Taylor, Carole King, Sheryl Crow, Eric Paslay, Will Hoge, and of course Vince Gill.

Grant, born November 25, 1960 in Augusta, Georgia, grew up in Nashville after her family moved there when she was seven. She is best known for performing Christian music, but has also found expression as an author, media personality and actress. She is the best-selling contemporary Christian music singer ever, having sold over 30 million units worldwide.

“Heart in Motion,” released in 1991, is her highest-selling album, with over five million copies sold in the United States alone. Grant received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2005.

She married fellow Christian musician Gary Chapman in 1982, and they have three children. They were divorced in 1999. Grant married country singer Vince Gill in March of 2000, and they have a daughter together.amygrant2

Grant will be appearing in concert with the San Diego Symphony and Brandon Heath on July 27, 2013, at 7:30 pm. She’ll be performing at the Embarcadero Marina Park South, at 200 Marina Park Way, San Diego. Her appearance is part of the Ashford University Summer Pops, a series of outdoor concerts.

Summer Pops is 10 weeks of concerts from just before 4th of July through Labor Day, all featuring the San Diego Symphony and some of today’s hottest pop music acts. Beside Amy Grant, this year’s Summer Pops performers include En Vogue, Michael Bolton, Ozomatli, Nathan Pacheco, Debbie Gibson, and Burt Bacharach. There will also be tributes to The Rolling Stones, The Bee Gees and the Music of Pixar.
