2011 Grammy Awards Fashion Statement

Lady Gaga Grammys 2011When it comes to awards show fashion statements, the 2011 Grammy Awards did not disappoint.  Let’s take a look at the best and most peculiarly dressed on the Grammy’s red carpet last night.

Who looked drop-dead gorgeous?

Rihanna wowed in her off-the-shoulder Jean Paul Gaultier haute couture mermaid gown, which has sheer peek-a-boo panels that alternate with white ruffles throughout.  She entertains costume changes throughout the night too! In her performance of the Record of the Year nominated song, “Love the Way You Lie,” Rihanna dons a black and yellow floral gown with tons of tulle billowing from underneath the immense skirt.

Katy Perry brings two dates to the Grammys this year—her husband, Russell Brand, and her grandma! She dazzles in an angelic custom Giorgio Armani gown with a Swarovski crystal encrusted bodice, a silk skirt with a train and feather wings that light up!

Kim Kardashian’s pervading diva-esque personality remains unchallenged in a gold shimmer Kaufman Franco gown.  The plunging neckline is a slightly more modest take on Jennifer Lopez’s green navel baring number from Grammy’s 2000 awards show.  With her long raven locks, Kim’s Cleopatra-inspired look is absolutely stunning.

Are you ready for the bizarre?

Lady Gaga outdoes herself once again, arriving on the red carpet encased in a life-sized egg, carried on poles by servants wrapped in nude rubber ensembles.  She emerges for the “Born This Way” performance, baring it all in a provocative, semi-translucent nude crop-top and skirt.  The vocalist also took home a Grammy for Best Pop Vocal Album for “The Fame Monster.”  Congratulations Gaga!

What do you think of Gaga’s performance? Was it as eye-catching and innovative as her arrival in an egg? Or could she have done better?

Gaga was not the only star calling on animal instincts, Nicki Minaj’s call of the wild included a cheetah-print Givenchy dress with matching tights and paws.  Lil Wayne’s protégé didn’t forget to stencil spray paint the sides of her head, truly depicting a fashion statement that goes from head to toe.
