JK Rowling’s Big Announcement For Harry Potter

By  |

Entering the Harry Potter World, we encounter the opening of a new website called Pottermore.com. J.K. Rowling launched the website with the words “Pottermore, Coming Soon” and a countdown clock. The clock counts down to the date of June 24th but the author has been silent as to the reason about the site and what she is creating.

A twitter account on the website has also been created to set up updates. As of Thursday, it already has 40,000 followers. One tweet states that it “Looks like the owls are getting ready to deliver some exciting news.”

J.K. Rowling has been widely appraised for her Harry Potter series and her writing has claimed all readers of all ages and nations. The first of the Harry Potter books, “The Philosopher’s Stone,” was published in June 1997. It was later republished the next year as “Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone,” although Rowling claimed that she regretted the change.  In the U.S. edition, it is published as “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone.”

The series has been widely read across the globe and, according to The Boston Globe, has been translated into 65 languages and more than 300 million copies have been sold. So now with seven books released and the film franchise coming to an end, what more will she add? According to People, her spokesperson has already stated that the big announcement will not be “directly related” to the final film, nor will it mean a new book to the series. Who knows what her big surprise will be? Guess we have six days to speculate and find out.

The Philosopher’s Stone was the title of the book as released in Great Britain. The Sorcerer’s Stone was the title the book was released under in the United States. I hope that clears some thing up for you.

Blimey. The point is not whether the title of the book is different than that of the movie, it’s that the author made the mistake of using the same title after stating it is different in the States than in England.

The book AND the movie are Philosopher’s Stone in every english speaking country in the world EXCEPT the US. For some reason, it was dumbed down to “Sorcerer’s Stone” there.

Yeah, everywhere seems to think the US is really stupid, they have to give anime characters special English names and change “nakama” to “comrades”…

Did anyone else notice that on the YouTube channel that shows the countdown, that the time is stuck on 00:09 of 1:13? Could this allude to a date, maybe? 9/13/12?

    Annie,

Your spelling and grammar belie your announcement that people in the US aren’t stupid.

    Annie,

I’ve heard that Rowling is writing a special book for all her loyal American fans entitled “Harry Potter and the Amazing Apostrophe”.

    Sincerely, A Canadian

I certainly hope that people don’t judge everyone in the United States based on the immaturity of some of the citizens it houses. Not all of us are stereotypical Americans.

Please sfu and gtfo saying that you are bigger fans than the British. I understand you made plays copying Harry Potter in american accents but that does not make you a bigger fan. Your country produced Twilight whilst ours produced Harry Potter and I’ve had the misfortune of reading the Twilight book so don’t be surprised that we think Americans are dumb when you’ve got Stephanie Meyer selling a book bursting with grammar mistakes such as hers is. J.K Rowling didn’t make a magical school in America as far as I know. Hogwarts is in Scotland, Beauxbatons is in France and Durmstrang is in either Sweden or Norway. Don’t be too jealous now;).

Who are you to call any country smarter than another? I don’t believe it was “dumbed down”. If you still believe it is, I would like to see some literature from J.K. Rowling stating so.
