Genomes, brews, magic and more at the Fleet in September

Summer’s almost gone, school has begun, and the Fleet carries on. Here’s a preview of the action at RHF for September:

rhfsept1* Genome: Unlocking Life’s Code * Come learn about the groundbreaking research happening in one of the most important realms of science: genomics. This exhibition unravels the mystery behind the complete set of instructions needed for every living thing on Earth. * The West Coast premiere is Sunday, September 28 *rhfspet2

* Perception: See Beyond the Illusion * Due to popular demand, this popular show has been extended at the Fleet. Come see World Champion of Magic Jason Latimer shaping water and walking through solid objects as part of his multimedia show in the Heikoff Giant Dome Theater * Starting September 6, Saturday and Sunday, 3:30 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. *

rhfsept3* Two Scientists Walk Into a Bar * We send 50 scientists to 25 bars all over San Diego for good beer and better conversation. Check out the full schedule on our website for the bar nearest you! * Thursday, September 25, 5-9:30 p.m. *rhfsept4

* Suds & Science * The next installment features Dr. Karen Pierce, Assistant Director of the Autism Center of Excellence at UC San Diego. She shares new evidence confirming that autism begins during pregnancy. We’ll be at Waypoint Public in North Park. Register to reserve a spot * Monday, September 15, 6:30-8 p.m. *

* Tinkerers’ Club * Every Saturday, we give kids the tools they need to make their own wonderful science creations. This month’s projects include creating solar-powered lanterns, building tangram puzzles, soldering circuit boards and designing pinhole cameras. * Every Saturday, 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the Tinkering Studio *

rhfsept7* Young Scientists: Little Wizards * Preschoolers ages 3-5 (and a parent) are invited to create castles, explore spells and investigate magical states of matter in this four-week, hands-on fun science program. * Classes meet on Thursdays, Saturdays or Sundays, 9-10:30 a.m. The next session starts Thursday, September 11.
